DSTV picture break-up?

A shifted LNB can cause major problems.
I had to have my lnb and dish realigned due to high winds.

Yip and only on certain channels. Let me guess, it got better after complaining? ;)

A few years ago we complained about it happening on some of the lesser watched channels like Animal Planet. Turns out all they had to do was up the power of the signal.

That is strange...they can't just up the signal since Animal Planet is broadcast from Europe and is linked directly to IS20. DStv just get time codes for when adverts are scheduled and slice in certain adverts at certain times.

And they are regulated at what wattage they are allowed to broadcast at.

Where did you get this info from?

Wow. Thanks for clearing that up...

From what I can gather they get the feed and then encode it. From where the whole switching noise thing came in.

This is from their tech guy himself where he was mentioning "upping" the signal strength. Soon after the breakups disappeared.

Can you please tell me who this tech guy is?

I have certain channels that give me problems too -117, 194. On channels 145, 146 and 192 no problems.

The sport and music that I watch do something similar, but there I blame my 1Mb line. :)

As previously mentioned in the thread, with all the new transponders MC have introduced anything being slightly off will cause issues.

Check what the signal levels are on your problem channels.

Anything below 80% and you need to get you installation checked.

117 jumps up and down, so I'll have to climb up with a small TV and fiddle around. Thanks.
