DSTV porn battle intensifies

What with the complicated phrasing? "Porn channel: Yes no maybe" would have been better. "Allowed" just confuses the juristic issue or lack thereof.

hey, don't look at me....not my poll

but it seems fine IMO

edit:
not a massive amount of votes yet but the results are quite different than most expected

Should DSTV be allowed to Launch a porn channel?
Yes: 17 (89,5%)
Don't care: 2 (10,5%)
No: 0 (0%)

I disagree "Porn channel: Yes, No or Maybe" is ambiguous. People could vote "no" because they personally don't want it. This isn't about personal preference. If it were I would vote "no" as I have no need of a DSTV porn channel. However this is about something far more serious:disallowing EVERYONE from having access to it just because YOU don't want it. It is about rights and others believing they can step on those rights because of their personal beliefs. Therefore "allowed" is the perfect word IMO.

According to a survey, being the President of the ANC gives you a 95% chance of being a molester.

Whoopee! 41000 vs those who voted YES. Duh! This is a pathetic statistic, but why do we always only hear about the NO votes? How many people actually voted YES? Why only 1 porn channel? If there's going to be a porn channel, they better make 3 channels: 1 for str8 sex, 1 for us gay boys, and 1 for the lesbians. Str8 people do not want to see gay or lesbian sex, and gay boys sure do not want to see either str8 porn or lesbian porn - GROSS! So there had better be THREE CHANNELS to choose from.

Don't these idiots have something better to fret about?

'Helping Hand' should go into partnership with 'CUM Bookshops'.

Confucius say: Sex starved person who goto bed wake up with solution in hand

OMG, seriously?

They can remove the religious channels if I want?

NO, NO, NO. They don't have to do diddly squat, they provide a service and I am the subscriber - If I don't want to watch/Subscribe to something, guess what, I JUST DON'T. Simple, isn't it?

you don't like Hustler magazine? Fine, then don't buy it?

I don't have the right to remove the religious channels and Ben doesn't have the right to remove the cartoon channels - we can't ban everything simply because WE don't agree with it

It's called TOLERANCE mate

Its called sarcasm mate

Because I have come to see several panties in a knot because I have dared to disagree. Now I realise that its best to say "to each his own". Do what you want, throw your toys.

My entire posting in this thread started off with a call for tolerance towards racial/religious/whatever groups and the final outcome is you telling me to be tolerant  but like the good bunch of opinionated fellows some people are, I should have expect you to swing from the hip and twist every thing I've said (or at very least tried to say, I will accept responsibilty if I have not explained myself properly). It goes without saying on this forum.

where the hell can one vote?

Im pretty sure a lot of us guys like lesbian sex, trust me....

and gay boys sure do not want to see either str8 porn or lesbian porn - GROSS! So there had better be THREE CHANNELS to choose from.

I understand gay guys like guys, but do you really think man-female sex is "gross" ? never thought of that before hehe...

the only solution would be to alternate between the different types each day......wednesday could be "threesome day" - a wacky wednesday 2 for 1 special if you will.

@HosstheBoss

I understand where you are coming from, and I know you are sincere in your opinion. I mean, this goes against what you believe...heck, what many people believe....

the thing is, why are you guys only now jumping in fighting this? porn mags have been around since I can remember?

The Internet, book shops, Cell phone Subscription, Free TV (etv), etc, etc have been selling porn for years, and the bigger thing, is it's free for anyone to see - out of your control and out there for anyone to get easily, even to kids. think about it....
now DSTV comes along, introducing a PAY subscription service, which can't be bought easily by kids (unlike cellphone services) and which ALSO has a SECURE PARENTAL LOCK feature - it's already there, implemented.

I don't get it?
one is freely available but nobody has a problem with it - the other is locked and secure, but is not allowed? what gives? what do you guys want?

Nobody challenged your calls for tolerance as far as I could see. They questioned your strange views on the relationship between pornography and rape vs. water-drinking and rape etc. How you can say one is more likely than the other based on zero evidence is beyond me... perhaps you took too much of that philosophy you mentioned earlier at university and not enough science or statistics?

That and your statements around people being able to choose not to watch something on TV while at the same time advocating for the disallowing of supplying a subscription based service to other human beings. That was a humdinger.

LOL

I prefer changing YES to "I support the idea that people should be allowed to watch whatever they choose to"

Maybe would stay "I don't care"

NO could be changed to "I want enforce my will upon others, they should watch what I decide is good and just, I don't believe in the rights of the individual"

Thanks Keeper, this is where I see I have not explained myself properly. I'm not one of those "you guys" you're referring to. Quite frankly I feel that Solidarity should stick to union issues. Like I said my issue is with the generalizations made about religious groups and Afrikaners. I myself am not religious but I do know that for a lot of people their faith and their culture is important and that should be respected even if not agreed with. If some of the above comments were made about black people we would see some or other comment made about the racists that are MyBB.

As far as the issue of porn itself is concerned I agree with you, however if they want to put a petition together let them, but people should please refrain nasty comments. Because as a popular forum we might want these guys in our corner one day when it comes to challenging the government on the issues around our poor internet situation.

You might notice that Im not much of a poster on this forum but I have been around for a long time. I've paid my bit toward the TAG adverts taken out and I've become jaded at our inability to push certain issues through. I really think that if we as a forum had to get some of these trade unions in our corner we might be able to achieve something and to refer to this particular trade union as a group of religiously repressed boers isn't going to win any hearts anytime soon.

One can be more likely than another, the entire point behind using words like "can" and "likely" puts it in the realm of theory rather than fact. I have not claimed any facts. But this was not my point I was trying to make; it was a side issue, which some felt a need to tear apart because well its seems to be the way of this forum at times.

And I still feel they can protest, I agree thats its silly, but they can, thats what a democracy is all about.
