DSTV porn battle intensifies

nobody cares about them setting up a vote, but at least give people the option to disagree, instead of saying" 30 000 people say this"

And secondly, we have a problem with them saying "watching porn causes you to become a child rapist", because lets face it, a lot of us watch porn. (especially if there is no evidence for it)

if this does in fact happen, and dstv launches the pomp channel.....err......there's gonna be a big drop in sex shops - nobody's gonna buy porn anymore...

Someone start a petition to remove ALL religious programming from TV. I'll sign that.

Worst part is that most of that stuff is on during the morning when my kids might see it...and there's NO parental control to block it.

+1

Most of the time I can understand the argument when people complain, but with this it feels like people are complaining just because they don't like the idea due to their personal reasons and are justifying their complaints from either a religious view or some selected studies.

Those who have voted no, what was your real reason? (Not the one you tell everyone else, I mean the real reason)

Now, being a christian myself, I really recon the 'christianity' approach to this is doing way more harm than good. I personally voted yes as I don't see a problem with it. My views on porn has nothing to do with my religion nor does my view on politics or the rugby team that I support. Period.
Secondly, studies have shown that studies show. That's it. No more, no less. Studies might as well have shown that the sharks should be undefeated in the current super14, does that make it true?

Wow, an entire 0.1% of the population?!!

Imagine if we did things based on what 0.1% of the country said? We would still be living in Apartheid!!!

Idiots...

This is very interesting.
I stand to be corrected, people are already voting NO, but there is no indication on how this channel is going to be offered (i'm not sure if i have missed s'thing). But if this is going to be an add-on subscription on the current one, I dont see why not it shouldnt be offerred.
Afterall, youll have to subcribe to get it. On top of that there are porn shops everywhere, g*d damit, and even CNA sell those magazines. AND REMIND ME WHY ISN'T THERE A CAMPAIGN TO CLOSE THESE SHOPS?
Even is it is not an add-on subscription, you still have parental lock.

The NAY-sayers should stop being lazy and learn how to operate parental lock. Its so friggin easy. I mean, every now and then they (DSTV) flight a commercial on how to do it.

There is a Facebook group a friend started; if you are for the channel, join and invite as many people as you can: Hell yes!!!! We want a porn channel on DSTV

FFS not this crap again. These articles keep harping on about how many said no, so how many said yes?

Was just going to say the same thing. I vote yes to Freedom of Choice! Everyone should choose if they want to watch porn or not.

I'll be interested to see how they will run it - whether it will be yearly like the other packages, or whether there will be a monthly option. And also, if a yearly sub, how membership will look after first year - because let's be honest here: if it goes ahead, it will be just like when we could legally buy adult videos and magazines. There was a bumper first year or so as South Africans went mad over being able to see 'proper' adult stuff, and then it tapered off to a much lower (but steady, sure) level, once people got used to the idea of having it around. I mean, come on, I can't see many of us sitting in front of the TV for hours and hours, days, weeks, months on end, watching porn vids. It's not as though the fare offers great storylines, awesome acting skills and original music scores. Tune in, check it out, *fap-fap-fab*, money shot, change channels back to Rhema.

interesting; you speak as if it is inevitable

I believe it is. If not them, then another servive provider. Sooner or later these things take place, religous zealots get frothy at the mouth, and a year down the line they've found something else to bleat about while the rest of us carry on as normal.

The solution is simple: offer it as an optional channel like some of the others. If you have kids, don't subscribe to the porn channel. If you want to watch porn, you can get it. Nodoby gets corrupted.
