DSTv porn possibility backlash

Another bit of sensationalist reporting, '13000 people', 'Porn Backlash', give me a break...
What happended, Juju Mal-Enema not giving you guys enough content??

I have no Idea what the story here is - who CARES if 13,000 people said no?

1) Multichoice have around 2 million subscribers - way outnumbers 13,000.
2) It's Legal to do it.
3) Other countries are doing it - they have no more rape than we do - perhaps even less like in Europe.
4) If you make a Survey, you don't look at how many people DON'T want it, you look at how many people DO want it.
5) And if they don't like it, they don't have to subscribe.
6) Etv has been doing this, hotels have it, magazines are there, Cellphone porn is available, Internet is available - for YEARS
- so before you curse DSTV, take away your childs Cellphone, internet, and don't let him near a TV on saturday or into a CNA at ANY time - DSTV already has a secure system in place though, it's called "parental controls"
7) More choice for viewers who want to watch it
8) More money for Multichoice and their stock holders

So basically, DSTV will be providing a service which has been available for many years already, but much more securely, Legally, for those that want to watch it, and therefore making more money as a business too.

For those that are against porn, go and annoy Etv, CNA, Hotels, Cell companies, sex shops, Mweb and Google, because they are ALREADY doing it.

You guys can heed to this advice or not from a recovered porn addict: It WILL destroy your life in the end if you don't find your way out.

I was one of the 'lucky' ones who got out after being addicted to it for many years. I am now entering midlife, and am all alone never having been in a normal relationship with a woman. Not sure if I ever will, because I still feel dirty from being addicted to that utter and complete crap for so long.

The less people that falls into this trap, the better for us all. We live in a very sick world and do not need to contribute to its downfall.

Good luck to you guys still kidding yourselves that this is part of being a 'man' and that there is nothing wrong with it.

I sincerely hope that you will too see it for what it is before it is too late for you.
This sounds just like the stupid sob stories ex-junkies used to come and peddle when I was school.

I always have to chuckle at the use of statistics to prove a point, it's like using a single line in the bible to prove your beliefs.
So they say that 77% of all molesters watch pornographic material. Great but it proves nothing!
The real question is "What percentage of the pornographic consuming populous are molesters?".
It's just too easy to twist the figures around to have them 'prove' your argument.

I believe that this topic has been blown way out of proportion. Would DSTV not release a slap-on boutique for adult content, much like they do for foreign language content? I'm also 100% positive that part of the DSTV decoder's functionality is the parent control module, which allows the blocking of age restricted content in a granular fashion.

I didn't say that. I said hardcore porn is a path which very clearly opens the door to more and more extreme porn - which isn't good. Fairly often it leads to viewing bestiality, pedophilia, and rape, and in some cases the watcher will want to act our their extreme fantasies.

It'll set a precedent, which would likely spread to the other channels. Multichoice won't always be the only provider.

Instead of adding pron channels multichoice should try improving what they offer on their existing channels. You do realize they are "denying" you quality content.

It's perfectly correct to draw lines in the sand. You aren't allowed to harm another human being for pleasure, and neither is it correct to place harmful sexual imagery on tv where it will clearly be accessed by children.
If it clearly opens the door then regale us with your facts.

Is it harmful? How harmful?

Seriously - I think it would be a really bad idea to add this channel to DSTV. If you look @ research done in the States (read a book about it a year or so ago, but you can just google it), when pornography was introduced/legalized, cases of rape, molestation and people contracting STD's went through the roof. SA has a big enough problem with rape, STD's etc. Pornography is just such a lie that so many people are addicted to.
Research done by whom?

How many people are addicted to pornography?

I say leave it online.
By saying that a private entity is not allowed to provide a service to it's customers you are essentially advocating cutting all of those customers off from perfectly legal content because of your beliefs.

In light of this you haven't answered my question so I will ask it again:
What gives YOU the right to deny another human being access to something?

Um we've already discussed this. If their is so much pron on the net, why do you want them to offer it? The answer is convenience and ease of access. If its so much easier for you, itll be easier for the kiddies too.
That is a pretty big assumption how did you arrive at that conclusion? I myself have no problem with Monochoice offering a porn channel, but not for the reason you have stated as though it were some sort of "fact". That is your opinion, which you are more than entitled to, but please don't pretend that it is a fact.

I say "yes" to offering not because I think getting pornography will be more convenient, but because I don't believe I have the right to tell others what they can and cannot watch. It is not fair for me to say "I don't want to watch it therefore nobody gets to watch it because I don't like it despite the fact that it is legal and people can control access to it and watching it is not mandatory".

The bottom line is perhaps it will be more convenient, but if you aren't a muppet and you learn how to use the parental control feature properly then how exactly is your child going to be able to view the pornography? What you propose is a nanny state on the basis that human beings are too stupid or too negligent to look after their own children. If there is ever a case of bad parenting the child should just be removed from the incompetent parents because at the end of the day that is where responsibility lies. Don't try to push blame onto Monochoice for providing pornography that children could potentially access, if a parent is dedicated enough then it won't be an issue. If parents cannot handle that responsibility then they shouldn't be having children.

This just in...

Over 13,000 retards found in South Africa.

In other news

"As [former] President [Nelson] Mandela rightly said, the character of a nation is measured by the way it treats children.

This nation is ****ed, we have people raping babies.

---

Porn DECREASES abuse, and is a HEALTHY outlet which, when not available, INCREASES perversion - case in point: Catholic Priests and their affinity for little boys bottoms.

Shut the **** up conservitards. Ever heard of freedom of choice? If you don't want it DON'T CHOOSE IT but don't force your propaganda and your dogma down my throat.

Over 13 000 say no to porn on DSTv

DSTv porn possibility backlash

Really!? You wrote an overstated, attention grabbing article for 13 000 people from a conservative union, interviewing a guy who just pulls "facts" out of the air?
..Well, *clap clap* another brilliant article from the geniuses in your "journalism" department.
Appalling article.

Etv plays what is close to little clips of hardcore porn in the ad breaks between the soft stuff.
Well you certainly got the hypocritical tone right in the article! Give yourselves a pat on the back..

This just in: 13,000 people think Rollercoasters are unsafe, and should be banned

1) Who cares? if YOU don't like it, don't use it!
2) 2 Million people DO like Rollercoasters
3) There are many Rollercoasters around the world
4) It's Legal
5) It makes money for the park

There can be 10 million people that hate violent Movies, saying it causes violence or murder - but if there is a market for it, and it's legal to show it, then there is no reason NOT to show violent movies.
The only way you can disallow a Network from showing violent movies, is if you have PROOF that it causes significant violence in the real world.

So, show us the proof, please?

Geeez...
DSTV already has "password" options in its setup menu, so the parents can take a little responsibility and lock the channel so the kids don't "accidentally enjoy" porn

And how about PPV (pay-per-view)? If the kids don't have a cash, they don't get any...
Might actually teach them financial responsibility too

Why has etv dropped their soft core crap?

Seriously I hope DSTV ignores the whingers and goes ahead with it anyway. I wouldn't bother with the porn myself, for a number of reasons but mostly because it's not my interest, but I have nothing against it.

I don't care what moral highground you come from or what argument or point of view you've got, or which unobjective study you throw in my face, I hope you get ignored and that the porn does come on.

For some reason I am just far too excited to see it come on tv and watch the world NOT end because of it.

Drama queens, the lot of you moral-highgrounders.

Can Odm just come and launch the porn channel and you will see how will dstv launch a lot of them. We need competition for such close calls.

I have no interist in a dedicated porn channel. I could download anything I want and I dont need dstv to help me. I havent raped anyone, but I'm sure that's comming.... oh yeah... too much porn... it does that... umm ja

But we know now we have 13'000+ idiots in the country (we all knew that anyways though).
