DStv Premium open weekend for streaming

DStv has announced that its subscribers will be able to watch Premium channels online for the weekend of 13-15 March.

Customers who have an EasyView, Access, Family, Compact, or Compact Plus will be able to view every channel on Premium via DStv Now from Friday to Sunday.

This includes all of the SuperSport channels and several high-profile events taking place over the weekend, including:
  • All of the weekend's Super Rugby matches on SuperSport 1
  • India vs South Africa 2nd ODI on SuperSport 2
  • Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United on SuperSport 3
  • Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix on SuperSport 5

Hopefully no sport of any significance on this weekend, tho there might not be any big uptake on this simply because those folks who qualify for the "free experience " are not capable of taking advantage of it.

Their goes the streaming quality...

How to cull DSTV Now, perhaps they are doing it to convince people that satellite is the way

Yeah, the service is going to be diluted with 'playback errors' or what do you say DSTV?

Got to love this: "During the Rugby World Cup, DStv Now users reported downtime and low-quality streaming issues on the platform. "

The dstv streaming experience is crap and does not need the help of a special event to fold. I've done the test time and time again - steaming on content (on demand and live) on the dstv platform vs other options such as Netflix and Eurosport clearly shows the inferior quality. And to top it the on demand option on dstv really sucks. Titles would just never be made available or just disappear without notice. They have some serious work to do before selling it as a service. People may rave when they get it for free over a weekend but do not expect them to pay.

My question was the open window is only available via website and smartphone apps only or all platforms ?

The app is available on certain Android TV boxes that have been Google Certified. On certain Smart TV's. Aside from website and cellphones.

the subscribers on the lower tier packages will most probably not have access to fiber/uncapped bandwith anyways.

If this is testing, this might be a waste of time

My thoughts as well, but yeah ... , they probably doing it as marketing - so they might gain something other than testing their servers - with them, who knows.
