Sure takes a while to get everything and you might need HTPC to store it all but well worth it once library is built up.
Just no sport yet :(

Kids would kill me if I cancelled internet line for DSTV.

Wait until you find out how much the sports rights cost.... for someone to outbid DStv and still make a profit they'd have to be more expensive than DStv.

Not sure about streaming it, so you might not like the answer... Torrents. Family is addicted to MC Australia and they don't miss an episode.

Weird because a dirt poor country like Nepal you get 150+ channels including live sport such as EPL, cricket and whatnot for under R300 a month so yeah, I wonder how they do it

Supersport produce most of the content - Rugby as an example (S15). So they have full rights to it, no need to bid against anyone, and still sell it on to broadcasters.

I'd argue it does.

Sure, the tone might touch you on your studio, but there's a huge television world out there that *isn't* DStv... If you take the time you might just be surprised by what's really available to you.

I'd also argue that the folk that annoy you in the DStv threads will be among the first to help out with advice on Netflix, Hulu, sports and so on in other corners of MyBB.

Damnit I keep misreading things :( The statements I made below are not so relevant :( Damnit this is what happens when I don't get my morning fix of coffee...

:crylaugh: Same here - only because I am still a student, and the DSTV in this student house is trash... the cheapest package possible. I use DSTV Now to access DSTV Channels.

When I start earning the coins, I'll probably go for uncapped fibre and a netflix account.

I got all the seasons downloaded last year using youtube-dl and Australian dns (had issues here but came right) and https://tenplay.com.au/ and https://www.tvnz.co.nz/

Not sure if the method works anymore.

Edit: I see they have removed it.
Edit: got it working again, using smartdnsproxy change Area B and D to Australia.

The Premier League alone costs them about £74Million per year.

Just imagine what the Super Rugby, Test Rugby, Cricket, F1, Olympic games, International Athletics etc etc etc costs them...
I think it's clear that normal programming are sponsoring Sports on DSTV. If it wasn't for their massive Sport broadcasting rights costs they would be able to offer dirt cheap packages for normal programming. And no...the R450 for DSTV Compact is not cheap...it would go for MUCH lower than that.

But hey, in the end they are still making a profit as per their annual financials.... so they are still milking the viewers well enough to score big time and pay fat bonuses and dividends...

I think a lot of people have both. If you can afford high-speed uncapped internet you can probably afford a DStv Premium subscription as well.

They'll flip out about DStv prices while posting from their R20k phones. :p
 
We pay presently the following premium subscription:

Sub (Premium 2017) R789.00/MONTH
Decoder Insurance R35.00 /MONTH (and you need it your own will not cover a repair)
Access fee R85.00 /MONTH

Total for all of 2017 R909.00/MONTHLY


WHY ADVERTISE IT AT R789.00 !! SOMETHING IS WRONG, THIS IS ADVERTISED ON TV AS WELL!

Like any good company is required to do by their shareholders... if they aren't making a profit (and their profit margins are not out of line with companies like Sky etc) then they shouldn't be running.

No, you are just being stupid... nothing is wrong. The subscription is R789... the others are add ons that you can choose to take or not.
BTW, the Decoder Insurance is not necessary... the only part your own insurance won't cover is if it just breaks.. Theft, lightning and floods are covered by your existing insurance.
