The whole exercise was to find the best value for money in the packages, and I've still come to no conclusion besides Premium is a freaking rip-off of note.

For the sake of brevity I've counted radio and some of the more arbitrary news and religious channels as one channel per category. I'm subtracting lower packages from the target to do calculations, e.g. Access - Easyview gives me 18 additional channels and working the average on the difference between prices.

Easyview 10 TV Channels + 30 Radio Channels
Average Value / Channel = R 3
Access 18 TV Channels + 13 Radio Channels
Average Value / Additional Channel = R 4
Family 11 TV Channels + 5 News
Average Value / Additional Channel = R 5
Compact 21 TV Channels
Average Value / Additional Channel = R 5
Premium 38 TV Channels + 28 Radio
Average Value / Additional Channel = R 16

R16 for the extra channels on Premium, quite a jump that is.

Agreed, however, you also need to take into account that the sports channels are on Premium and AFAIU the rights for the sports broadcasted on them cost a fortune.

Granted, and the movies channels must be more expensive affecting the R16 average / channel I come out with. Although Monochoice has split the movies out to Genre categories and repeat the crap out of them, maybe that should be counted as one channel? That would average to R20 / channel in the premium package.

So the question is would ppl pay R20 / month for those premium channels if they could choose single channels..

Sports channels are the biggest cost on the package, simply because it has the biggest demand on no one can compete with it currently.

Have you explored the internet streaming idea or are you keen on watching sports?

Edit: Would definitely pay R20 per channel. SS1,2,3,5,6,7 = R120. Bargain:-)

I'm coming from Easyview perspective, with 16 month old child I have to watch every R and c. Which means no ADSL. With that said, their "Family" package is unappealing to say the least. Whoever designed that has no friggin' clue. And "Access" is no better.

If I could choose my channels, with my calculations, they'd be debiting me R90 / month instead of the R29.
