DSTV Problem ARGH

Okay, messed around with my options and whatever, changed and reset some settings and it seems as if the channel switching has gone but ffs the info bar keeps appearing!

Mine also does this. I think it might have something to do with cloudy weather. I know the info bar does update just after open time on mnet finishes... But it is only an issue if you happen to be watching mnet on channel 3...

I dont know why it apears, but I would take a wild stab at point the fingers at the interactive application exiting. (the 'OK' button) check if the menu appears on non-interactive channels e.g. FTV or some other dumb channel

As far as I know the whole interactive app is downloaded to the decoder when it displays the OK banner, when the programme is finished the info bar pops up and goes away again, maybe dstv sends a trigger of sorts? maybe sending this trigger makes the info bar pop up when it shouldn't?? naughty old dstv!

I also got this last night for the first time last night during Idols on M-Net, however every night at 6:59 my Info Bar pops up just before M-Net Open Time is finnished and then 7:01 disappears.

Very weird

Had the same issue last night when switching from Discovery to History Channel - I also thought it had to do with mixed interactive / video channels. I frequently have problems with them.

Problem: Info bar pops up every few seconds, at the same time the channel number vanishes from the display. No channel changing possible. It seemed as if the decoder was very confused internally.

My solution was to unplug, then go to Menu -> Dish Installation -> Rescan All Networks. The first time it worked for 10 mins or so before the problem re-appeared, then completely fixed itself after anoher iteration. Go figure ...

Yup me too, info bar kept on popping up, so I unplugged it and removed the decoder card, then after putting everything back it kept on jumping back to the last viewed station whenever I tried changing to another channel.

I get 'lock ups' and very slow response to the remote - the channel display goes blank then evenually comes back at the same time as the decoder reacts. It's partcularly noticable when hitting the 'i' or channel change buttons.

power off/on sometimes helps sometimes doesn't. Resetting to factory defaults helped for a bit, but it's status quo again.

I also notice the update decoder option is now greyed.

Is this a non-suble attempt of Multichoice to sell new decoders?

Hmmmmm ....

So i'm not the only one then. I've had 2 of these problems described.

1. The info bar keeps popping up.
2. The channel keeps changing back to Channel 50.

A power cycle sorted the problem out though

Had the same problem on my previous decoder. I now have a PVR, and..... no problems!

So one only gets acceptable service if one spends R3000 plus R50 per month?

Where have I seen this before - hint T____m. South African companies suck big time, all jumping on the ripoff gravy train.

Not really ... I've heard if you spend R3000 plus R50 a month, you may get sync problems .... *shrug*

I'll be honest though, with all the disadvantanges of the PVR, I still want one badly. It IS overpriced and not entirely error free, but Multichoice will (probably) start releasing software updates and additional featuires only for the PVR and neglect the other decoders. Also, DVD recorder or not, it's pretty convenient for my DSTV recordings (90% of what I'd record).

I want the other part of a multiview decoder.
i.e. The one without all that dynamic crap.
I have never ever found a use for that dynamic rubbish, IMHO - they can stick it.
I don't want to push exit to get rid of an OK sign that I never asked for.
I want to be able to see the volume bar when changing the volume level.
I want to be able to see what program is on in the info-bar without waiting forever while all the dynamic crap is skipped.
I want MY DSTV back.

Fskerz.
