DSTV Rant Thread...

I cancelled my dstv subscription about 18 months ago - one of the best things I ever did.

My advice to you guys is, simply disconnect from this rubbish that frustrates you so much, and not to mention the money you're paying for this schit.

You CAN live without any TV, and even dstv.

Here are some suggestions for substitutes to TV:
1. Go for a daily walk.
2. Take your dog or girlfriend or boyfriend for a walk.
3. Get a kayak or a canoe.
4. Take up cycling or running.
5. Learn to speak a new language.
6. Get a serious, decent hobby.
7. Buy a good camera with the money you're not throwing at dstv.
8. Learn to play a musical instrument.
9. Do a university course.
10. Read a book - every week.

If this does not convince you, then visit the dstv website in the UK and then ask yourself why their choice of programs is so much better than ours.
Why is Multichoice (hehe, I absolutely love that name) ripping you off, with all their repeats, AND YOU ALLOW THEM TO DO IT!!!

:p;):D:)

The only things I don't do from that list is the language and photography part. I don't study at uni however I do research within my industry. I enjoyed my DSTV up until a few months ago - I want the real content back for this time of night when I can't play a musical instrument on my mountain bike...

1. Go for a daily walk. (already do ... still need dstv)

4. Take up cycling or running. (meh)
5. Learn to speak a new language. (in the process ... still need dstv)
6. Get a serious, decent hobby. (already do ... still need dstv)
7. Buy a good camera with the money you're not throwing at dstv. (already have ... still need dstv)
8. Learn to play a musical instrument. (meh)

this is SA, *** is put up with until you leave .........

I'm watching Top Gear, the one with the amphibious creations, right now. Probably the 50th time I've seen it... Why? There is really nothing else on, and I'm waiting for the cricket.

Don't get me wrong, I love Top Gear, but this is seriously annoying. R500+ bucks a month for pretty much nothing new. DSTV should just reduce to a single movie channel, at least then it won't feel like 5 billion repeats.

Sadly, I subscribe to DSTV for the sport mostly, and unfortunately they've monopolised sports coverage 100%, so as a sports fan, I have no choice but to begrudgingly fork out the R500+ every month.

Why do people have a problem with repeats. I actually think they should make another series channel that shows you what was aired previously a month later it would help a few people.

And I'd like more BBC channels and British content. I'm tiered of American rubbish

Why do people have a problem with repeats.

Is this a serious question or are you trying to be difficult? Why not just air one month's worth of content and then repeat it for the next 11? See the problem with repeats?

I only wish they had more access to showing more nfl games , esp now since its playoffs. If frikken Sky tv in the uk can show a decent amount of coverage then I dont see why we cant.

Probably because as South Africans we generally find NFL to be a rather pansy sport not worth watching. If DSTV decide to invest in American sports content I WILL cancel. Basketball is more boring than a Dawson's Creek episode - I can't fathom what's so enjoyable about watching grown men run around a 20metre court and throw a ball in a hoop without tackling each other. Baseball isn't all that bad but it just feels like a cheat's version of cricket. NFL really is a sport for pansies - fscking head to toe protection and restarting the game every time one of the players falls down. Ice hockey on the other hand I can watch. But now that they're curbing the fighting, it seems to have lost it's edge a bit...

I get p1ssed-off when they over-compress the channel and the picture quality gets really compromised, with plenty of compression artifacts everywhere. Especially hate it when they do it to say a cricket match. I don't really enjoy watching a square, fuzzy "ball" getting hit around.

NFL Football.... where 2 teams of 70 players each, play a 40 minute game in 3 hours...

I think it's all falling apart for DSTV management. In the beginning there was a healthy balance between great content and sports, but now, probably due to some bad planning and the exchange rate they have seemed to focus more on sport. Remember when they buy a fresh hot show from Hollywood (or ABC, CBS or NBC) they buy a package and this includes stuff the studios couldn't sell normally (let alone give away) so you get the crap mixed in with the good (all those old reruns)
If DSTV haven't bought lots of premium content in the past year BEFORE the Rand weakened, ( quite likely they didn't and missed the boat) they are really going to pay through the nose now- if they are going to pay at all- After all, perpetual reruns are cheaper and sports content seems to be where their heart is.
I think they've lost focus in their mad plans to expand through Africa and rake in all the profit. There's probably no money left for decent content after Sports Broadcast rights are bought. Anyway that's just my crackpot theory :D

Guys, we are ALL unhappy with all the repeats etc. etc. May I suggest that we all put our complaints in writing to MultiChoice.
In April there will be another subscription increase; mark my words!

I am becoming more and more disenchanted with DSTV of late. Including the Sports channels which is a first for me. The documentary channels no longer have a single new show on that is (IMO) of any interest. The movies are mostly crud, and repeated far too often. The lifestyle channels are repeating everything and sundry now too. There is just absolutely NO NEW CONTENT ON DSTV ANYMORE, and if there is, it is barely worth watching.

Agreed the documentary channels have gone seriously down hill lately. :o
Movie channels have always been **** IMO. SS is really the only thing keeping me as a subscriber to what is essentially a rip off if you consider the quality of the other channels you're paying for. Unfortunately SS is starting to head the same way with all the local borefests they're bringing in. They're even showing Kenyan footie ffs

If they increase it this year I can guarantee ALOT of people will cancel dstv... budgets are already tight, and its a luxury.

I think they are taking the budget that they used for decent movies and progs, and channeling it into their HD ****e.
They used to repeat a movie about 4 times a month. I swear there have been some movies on evey 3 days this Dec!
They are repeating stuff and hoping ppl are typically lazy enough to not do anything about it. I will be writing them.
I don't care about HD. DSTV on Demand is also a lot of bull, that is only a test to see when they can start charging for "premium content"
SOON you will see they are going to charge you for the good stuff and leave us all with the junk we have now.
FFS! They play Weeds which is a top rated show so late at night that most can't watch it. You would think someone there would have half a brain and offer it on the DSTV on Demand menu, but nooooo. Clueless bunch of morons.
Have you also noticed the bad sound and video quality on certain channels. Are they using all their processing power for HD, and reducing the quality of the other broadcasts?

If? As if there is any doubt. They will increase it.
