My parents currently have a DStv premium subscription which they use at home. They also have additional smartcards linked to the account which they activate over weekends, depending on which house they are at. I think the cost is around R17 / day to activate a secondary card.

Does the activation of these secondary cards temporarily suspend the primary account? And is it possible to have more than one secondary card active at a time?

I'd like to get a card for myself which I can just activate whenever there is an F1 race or other sport I really want to see. Does anyone know if this is possible? Obviously my parents would only agree if it didn't interfere with their ability to watch.

Thanks.

Apparently you can now activate your holiday house smartcard from the "my account" section of the dstv.com website. When you do this you are given the option of disabling the primary smartcard.

my thinking no it wont work since each card needs to be linked to a specific decoder, and if you put your own card in that decoder would be linked 2 one of thier decoders.

This is correct. My parents have 3 cards linked to 3 different decoders. My concern is whether the primary stays active when you activate a secondary card. My parents would simply link another decoder and another card to their main account, which I will then use when I really want to watch something.

Smartcards for 1110, 1131, & PVRs can only be used on the decoders they are linked to
If you have a holiday card from an earlier decoder then this can be used on the older decoders
Holiday viewing is charged pro-rata per day, but if its seen as non-holiday viewing (I assume if you have a separate account) then you get charged R50 everytime you re-connect

It's just a holiday home smartcard, it will be activate along side the primary smartcard. When disconnecting, just make sure you give them the right Smart card number.
I do it every now and again.
