Anyone else having the same problems??

A day does not go by where the picture doesnt get all broken up and then some or other error message comes up on the screen and we have to unplug the decoder and restart it before it works again...

Have done the whole dsd upgrade thing and that did nothing. The decoder is less than a year old...I am in Tamboerskloof, Cape Town. My gf over the hill in Camps Bay NEVER has any issues with her DSTV.

R450 a month for this is really not worth it!

Any ideas?

I used to get that issue with my old decoder.... Weirdly enough i found when i improved the cooling on the decoder it started to work a hell of a lot better...

UEC's older designs where not the best in the world, so i ended up with 2 fans hacked into the system and then had no issues...
got myself a compact decoder now (which was initially bought in Tanzania) and it has no issues at all.

The decoder does run really hot and we dont turn it off at night...But short of whacking a great big fan behind it I am not sure what to do...

Could it be the rain storms.... Rain-fade causes alot of problems where the signal is transmitted. JHB has had alot of flooding and the signal relay is there.

hj2k_x : The fan issues actually helped alot, before I got intelligent and brave enough to hack the casing to pieces, i just took the cover off and it helped a lot as well... but it just looked odd to have this decoder with no cover on, but not on the back... 2 80mm fans cut into the top of the cover is all I did.

I see, that might be an idea. It does run really hot.

My decoder also started dropping the signal this Friday. Although my signal quality is at 100%, my signal strength droped to 45%. Now none of the SABC channels work, neither does MM2 or Action and also a few others.

I thought the problem was on my side; maybe a tree to close to the dish?

But now it seems that I am not the only one, so the problem might be with multichoice?

Now that unfortunately is beyond the scope of my abilities... BUT i think your signal strength monitor in the decoder menu should give u an idea...

Not a problem in the least, if we can fix this without you having to drag one of those satellite "technicians" in, then we've saved you some money.

Maybe the first and easiest thing to try is just to pull the cover off the decoder and see if that helps a bit.

Had this problem a while back as well with the old decoder - I think it was the model which came out about 6-7 years ago. Signal didn't just drop but the screen used to jump around alot, and text used to appear all wavy and stuff.

Signal strength etc in the menu was fine. Technician came in and the rocket scientist couldn't find anything wrong. Swapped in my sisters decoder and it worked fine. So we had to replace the decoder with one of the newer models and now it's perfect again.

I would suggest trying somebody else's decoder (preferably a newer model) and see if it is that.

We had this today and a short while ago too. The signal quality jumps about and goes to zero, while the sig strength stays constant. I think the DSTV staff have taken the day off and let trainees run the show.
(Also in CPT)

Today my decoder gave an error message indicating that there was no signal for about a minute. After that the signal returned, but is still weaker than usual. (In Somerset West)

I have been experiencing another problem recently. I have a DSD990. A few weeks ago I pressed "HELP" on the remote to check signal strength etc. The information which was displayed indicated that there was a firmware update available for my decoder. When I tried to update the firmware, the on-screen display would indicate "Checking for download" for 60 seconds and would then indicate "No download available". It still does this even though my decoder indicates that it's firmware is outdated. I've tried resetting the decoder - didn't help. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a possible solution to this problem?

I also had the exact same problem today in Somerset West (Parel Vallei area) with a DSD 660. Mine always indicates its firmware is outdated, but I have not been able to download an update since some time last year. I thought it was because my decoder is too old.
