Hi guys

Struggled to log into the dstv streaming app over the weekend, so i uninstalled the app but now i can't find the app on the google store anymore.

There is a note that says the app is not available for this device.

Anyone have the same or can anyone check if the app is still available on their device?

My shield is stock standard.

Thanks

I side loaded the app and i am getting "Device Unsupported" error saying that my device is not google certified. this is even after i rest the device.

Any ideas?

Sounds unexpected as I assume that Shield is one of the best out there.
Which of the 3, the 2015, 2017 or 2019? If it's the 2015 model it's probably no longer supported. Even the 2017 might be pushing it

I don't have a dstv account, but tested installing the app for you on my 2017 Shield.

I installed it from the Play Store and was able to get to the point where it told me to sign into the app from a browser.

Thanks for that, it is weird. I also have the OG Mibox and the app is available. so there is something that google play does not like on my shield.

What region is your Shield setup as?

DSTV Stream is available on my 2019 Shield TV Pro.

I also have the 2015 model, stopped working about 2 weeks ago, was not showing the profile so thought it was my ad blocker blocking it, finally got time to have a look, disabled all adblockers, then un-installed it and now I can't find it in the app store, really sucks, don't understand y, shield is still better than all the other android boxes coming out

If I search dstv stream, says not available anymore wtf

Well it is available on my Shield TV Pro 2019 - in Bloemfontein.

So not sure why you are having issues other than that your Shield is is setup as being in a different region for some obscure reason.

So - from my point of view, you are using a VPN, to some other region.

You are using some form of DNS spoofing.

Google identifies the e-mail address being used, as being from a region other than South Africa.

Or you installed something that is telling Google Play Store that your Shield is not in the South African region for some reason.

I do not install and test apps on my Shield, I keep aand reserve a Mi-Box S 2nd Generation currently for that purpose.

So as I see it, factory reset your Shield, if you are certain none if the above might affect you.

Create a new e-mail address in South Africa. No VPN, no DNS funny buggers, and try again.

DNS issues could be on your router or Shield.

Further than that I cannot currently think of any reason why the Google Play Store thinks you are out of region.

Edit:

There may be a country setting that is set somewhere else, as well.

Another thought, clear your Google Play Store cache and any other system caches you can find.

So I have factory reset my shield and it showing again, so thanks very much, was getting really worried, as Deanoblado was also having the same issue at the same time, was using the dstv app on the TV but app is so slow to run, so glad I got it to work on shield again, so old but still the best.

FYI, I did try sideload dstv but when it started it said it was not a certified google device,

So dstv ran for a day, then the next day it said it's not a certified device again, I reset it again and now I can't install it again, I had adguard on my network so thought it was that, so I factory reset my device again and connected to my phone Hotspot, was not connected to my home wifi Fibre, when I set up my profile it showed the dstv stream app under do you want to install these apps, I said no and then went to play store and search dstv, and it's giving me the same error as in pic above, what could be sending location that is incorrect.

I have the same problem. 2015 Shield TV Pro. DSTV Stream App stopped working and gave a " this is not a certified google device" error a couple of weeks ago. Deleted the app and its not viewable in the play store now.

I do see that there is an software update available from today. Hopefully that fixes the issue. If not I think that the end of the road for my Shield TV. (I've gone through 3 remotes so far)

Ok, so i see a lot of you have the same issue, seems like it only affects the older devices 2015 and 2017 so there was def a change. I also reset my device to factory and the app was available, but after a few hours i got the same device cert error.

When it was working i did notice the app UI looked a bit different. so, they did make app changes as well.

Dstv say that the stream app is no longer supported on the Nvidia shield TV and it's been like that since May 2024. They have slowly been disabling devices. They give no reason.
