I think mine is a 2017 model. Will have to check. Sucks though (For the sport). Netflix etc. apps still work without any issues. So not sure why DSTV app is so special to not support the TV anymore
Because they want you to buy a substandard streaming device. Simple economics for them. Not for you and anyone else!

The DSTV android app is slow in general especially in the Live TV menu. I think it's the EPG loading that slows it down.

So, the Streama is basically some Chinese box that is wiped and DSTV installed its proprietary software to make it worse.

When I worked there ages ago, I feel like I'm saying this a lot recently, they had the entire EPG on a flat file. That the box had to parse and make sense of. Back then, there was talks of moving to a SQL/sqlite approach, and I kinda assume they've implemented that by now. Although, this type of slow button press response was exactly why we were called into meetings around this.

I kinda liked that back then - but for the smart home side. Unfortunately no one stocked any of these

Looks like the Streama launch has come with a streaming security upgrade as well, lots of complaints about Chromecast now not working and I can't stream them on Ubuntu, just working on Windows still.

Really becoming a joke company these days.

Its one of those situations where everyone can see they could set themselves up to be a really great streaming platform king like Netflix but they keep dropping the ball or threw it into a bush or a river and you keep thinking "what the heck are they doing over there" with every new development.

They could have put together a cheap box with a few great apps that work smoothly that people without smart TVs could buy (think Amazon Fire Stick or Apple TV) with a curated, useful app store. They could have had 4K and 8K versions with different specs. But no, they launch whatever the heck this thing is....

Sluggish performance is a bit of a deal breaker.
Needing a DStv account to use the device at all is very silly.
An unusable USB port is brain-dead in terms of design.
Out-performed by some years-old Chinese device is laughable
No app store at all? Eish

Its hard to recommend such a device, but I guess some will still buy it and struggle with it.
Could probably fix all this with a software update or two, but I wouldn't count on that.
Lol
