What do you guys think about organizing a protest to the current DSTV pricing? This can be done by having maybe pledging to unsubscribe on a particular month in protest of the exorbitant pricing of their packages. My main issue is the lack of choice, particularly when it comes to sports packages, which forces us to pay for the full package.

Disclaimer: This is merely a feeler and I am not responsible for any financial or legal consequences of my post. Just looking to see if others feel the service is lacking options and is overpriced.

Comments?

I suggested a similar action over a year ago but nothing happened. If you want to watch F1, you have to spend over R600 per month, no other choice, seems unconstitutional, doesn't it ?

I'm in for the cancelletion but only if you get more numbers in then it will be worth it.

If you can afford it, great.
If you can't, don't.
Seriously, it's not like we're talking inflated bread and milk prices.
DSTV is a LUXURY.

Supply and demand

Prices will remain where they are and or go higher as long as there are enough people to pay for it. If you're not happy with the current prices then exercise your right by stopping your subscription.

PS: Nothing against your attempt or suggestion, I'm all for a consumer boycott. Consumers in this country are way to accommodating and thus the reason why so many suppliers and the like just walk all over them.

Do you cancel during the F1 off season?

No need to protest - just cancel.

I'm pretty sure the prices are just matching inflation. Saw a graph of that somewhere. But regardless the price of DSTV is too high. If tomorrow a real competition suddenly formed in this country (more than just one more competitor, because that would turn in to a duopoly like we had with Vodacom and MTN) I think we would see something happen with prices in a similar manner as to ADSL, where within about a year prices went from R27/gig to Uncapped for R500 on a 4 meg line.

But for now DSTV and capitalism have you by your nuts. So if you think the price is too high, don't buy.

LOL, and here's me who wishes I could get rid of the sports channels and music channels (never NEVER watch them), and those dreadful American trailer trash ones (those ones with the judge shows or baby beauty queens blah blah blah). BBC channels are 50/50 - most of the time they run Top Gear, Come Dine with Me or Eastenders. *yaaawwwwnn*
Give me my Nat Geo, Discovery, History, Travel, News Channels and Movies and I'll be happy.
Oh, and why do we pay for DSTV PREMIUM and then still have ads (I ask yet again).

That's the point. We all watch different stuff.

I think the no1 goal at the moment should be a separate sports package. Most people either want the sport or don't want it.

In other words they can afford to offer a cheaper service but as they are a monopoly they don't need to.

I understand DSTV is a luxury, my main issue is not with the price, its with the structure of the packages. I do not use DSTV for Series, Movies etc, I just use it for sports. I feel that its a waste of my money however being the sports fan that I am I just pay the amount for the 'luxury'
