I have a question regarding DSTV and Supersport online streaming. Do they usually stream F1 races? If yes, what's the quality like?

I considered getting a Walka once, but the quality was crappy, and no F1 broadcasts, due to lack of SS5/SS6.

Just had a quick look at the DSTV Now app. And on there at least you can get 6, but not 5.

Yes. Last year they were in full 720p hd and were excellent. BBC feed though, not Sky.

If I may piggy back this thread instead of starting a new one...

The Supersport app on my phone has an update and I see this message:

I have DSTV premium but not a PVR. This seems to tell me I won't be able to stream even if paying the access fee once this is implemented?

Quality is really good... I use this feature daily and now DSTV want subscribers to pay an additional R75 access fee so that we can continue enjoying what we have all gotten used to... They also mention that this will be happening soon. Not happy!

Well it cost me a beer but I have now got my neighbour's dstv-premium-plus-pvr-access-fee account set up for streaming.

He was more than happy to let me use it as he has no use for it whatsoever. I just want to watch the 20 F1 races this year.

Happiness.

On the Sky feeds I can watch the 90 minute build-up before the race, as well as the 60 minutes after the race, and Ted's notebook, which sometimes has some unique insights we don't get on websites etc. ;)

Oh, and Brundle and Croft's commentary.

I also watch the pre- and post-race on wiziwig or wherever, but switch to supersport for the full hd experience for the race proper. Life is full of compromises... :)

Did it buffer, or was it smooth ?

No, no buffering. On a 4 meg line with telkom internet last year it was fine. Supersport streaming improved a lot over the course of last year. It started out in march as pretty poor, but by november was in hd, widescreen and the buffering issues were all sorted. Hoping for a similar experience this year. Or better, as I'm now on afrihost capped on a 10 meg line.

1080p is full HD though. 720p isn't

Whatever. When you can see the scratches in the paintwork on the cars that's good enough for me. :)

I think back to 15 years ago and remember how I waited a minute or so for a 1 Mb pic to download on a dial-up connection and now I can watch sport live on the internet in better quality than I ever experienced on a tv. That's nice.

Not saying it doesn't look nice.

Still happy with SD for the price.
