Hi,

I am thinking about purchasing the Dstv Explora Ultra, mainly to have one location for streaming apps and Dstv without needing to switch between HDMIs (Man is it annoying to switch HDMIs on the TV remote constantly).

Before providing a recommendation on why I shouldn't be using Dstv at all, I am using it for the sports and Dstv provides top quality broadcasting in comparison to steaming.

Nevertheless, I can't find a single review of the Explora Ultra on the internet . My main concern is how well apps like Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube perform on the machine.

I know comparing the app performance between an Explora Ultra to a Google Chromecast with Google TV is a no contest.

Though, does anyone know how they perform? Lag wise? Buffering wise? Can you keep a YouTube video open on pause, and minimize it and then when opening it again does it maintain the pause?

I do also wonder if those apps get regular updates as well, or if the same YouTube app version that was released in 2021 (I think) is still the same app version till today on the Explora.

Any thoughts or advice?

Rather take the hassle of switching inputs. I have this and can report the following: Netflix - all good in 4K HDR with Atmos, Disney - Disaster at 720p, stereo sound, Prime - good in 4K HDR with 5.1 Dolby (No Atmos), DSTV and Showmax just as sh*t as on all other platforms. Youtube good at 4K HDR with stereo sound (no 5.1 Dolby). Dunno about Britbox but that's it. No Apple TV app etc, etc. I have not tested pausing and minimizing YT, but doubt it'll work as opening and closing apps feels like you are stretching the hardware to it's limits.

*edit The apps do seem to update when the decoder updates or something of the sorts and the bit of testing I did was on 200Mbps 5Ghz WiFi and didn't notice any buffering. The interface is laggy though
