DStv working on streaming-only package to take on Netflix

What I hear is, "manufacturing decoders is getting expensive, let's offer online services. This way they pay for internet and our content prices don't have to change. It's so simple!" :D

How do you get Amazon Prime for R49 per month?

Don't know, I thought that's the normal price? Just double checked on my iTunes account, Amazon Prime Video is R42.99 PM.
After subscribing for a month or 3 back when it initially launched in SA I switched it off again and when I subscribed 2 months ago that was the price given to me. I can't remember what I paid in the beginning but when I saw the R42.99 I thought it a real bargain.

If you have Amazon prime, you qualify to get Amazon prime at a discounted discount, delivered free, at your door step. :crylaugh:
The rest of us pays like $12.
Prime Video, on the other hand is now $2.99 for the first 6 months and then $5.99. Don't know what he was referring to.

Ah yes sorry, I was referring to Prime Video only, so guess I'll be paying $2.99 or R42.99 for 6 months then.

He said their biggest obstacle was not sports broadcasting rights, but securing the streaming rights for all the entertainment content they offer on their existing DStv packages.
So they understand the difference between broadcasting rights and streaming rights.

Then why are they moaning about Netflix being a broadcaster?
MultiChoice has called on ICASA to ensure the playing field for all broadcasters in the country is level, regardless of their underlying technology.

Bunch of two-faced cnuts who will use whatever dumb excuse to get what they want even if they contradict what they say...

Showmax - meant to be included for premium subscribers does not work.
Only premium subscribers can stream . . . . so the 'higher numbers' statement is meaningless.

It's time to un-bundle channels and allow one to CHERRY-PICK what channels you want to subscribe to.

Providing a pay-per-view service for events like international Rugby could do very well with international viewers able to access local events.

This should all be easily do-able, but they fear taking the plunge - at their peril.

I really hope that this fails for MultiChoice... They've taken too much money from us for all these years so yes i really mean it if i say that i hope it all falls down into their face!:)
How did they take your money? Did you sign a willing agreement with them to provide a service to you for said price? Or did they not give you a choice like Eskom?
Their pricing might be high, but they don't force anything on you.

Showmax is included for a cheaper fee on other packages, think it's R49 on Compact.

It'll be interesting to see how (if) they manage the value proposition.

Scenario 1: Same channels, lower price
Complaint: Why should I pay R1k for 'premium' if those online people get it cheaper?

Scenario 2: Same channels, same price OR Less channels, same price
Complaint: Why should I switch?

Scenario 3: Less Channels, Less Price
Complaint: Why would I not Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/?

Of course, being Multichoice, they may go for Scenario #4: Less channels, higher price
