DTT set-top boxes will continue to be delivered until they run out

The Universal Services and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) said that it would continue to roll out DTT set-top boxes until they have been depleted.

This follows an announcement from minister Nomvula Mokonyane that government would no longer be procuring set-top boxes and would move to an industry-driven model for the Broadcasting Digital Migration project.
 
During the implement stage of the project, USAASA delivered 880,128 set-top boxes to SAPO, with 486,077 being installed to beneficiaries and the remainder stored in SAPO warehouses.

Next to my parcels that don't get delivered.
 
So R2300 per set top box. As always price inflated by 10x.
 
I am in the TV installation game, so as an experiment I decided to purchase a DTT tuner box from my local Chinese shop for R350-00. I was highly impressed by the quality of the unit. It also had a PVR facility when you insert a flash drive into the USB socket. It also had a channel display, AV, HDMI and RF outputs.

So what channels can be viewed on this unit?
Any model no? Very interested in pvr function.

This the same box government is distributing?

Well unless you can prove that the majority of poor people have stolen TV's or that the government is targeting people with stolen TV's for a free set top box, your statement is false.

Prove you are in the lowest income bracket, and they give you one, i.e. you are on a Government Subsistance grant or Welfare equivalent, un-employed etc. etc. and they give them away, otherwise, you have to pay for it.

They can keep it, I stream, NetFlix, and Prime Video, as what is available is dreck ... , 10 - 12 years old, or worse

I thought it was a free for all. I don't own a TV anymore but free is free. Sort of free anyway
