Can anyone tell me if it is possble to get a dual sim from MTN. One to use in my cellphone and one to use in my datacard (hsdpa) on the same account.
All the MTN service providers in East London say this is not possible/illegal. MTN only supply a second SIM card if I can prove I am using it in a fixed carphone. Does this option exist. MTN website clearly say they offer this option for ones mobile and one for ones "cardphone". They say too much fraudunlent activity is happening due to dual call /sims.
I would really appreciate some input on whether this is allowed elsewhere in the country.
Thanks again
Rory.

Very possible. Packet data usage on secondary sim will deplete any bundle loaded as well...

Go through to MTNSP (provided you are an MTNSP subscriber) in Vincent Park on Sansom Road.

Just tell MTN that it is for a fixed carphone. I was looking into this several months ago (pre-HSDPA) and the MTN woman I spoke to said it's not that hard for people to lie and say this is the dualsim's purpose.

LOL
No need to lie no. As Rory has stated, MTN website info states that dual call for data card is possible...
Problem here is dealer mis-information or training issues.
Again @rory, very possible to get dual call for packet data data card.

Not possible

Thanks so much.
Both MTN service providers in East London including the one in Vincent park say I am not allowed to get a second sim unless I can prove that I have a fixed car phone installed in my car. I have to produce papers confirming this installation.
Both had to phone headoffice to check as I did not believe them as it is easy to get a dual sim on vodacom.
What now.
Thanks
Rory.

I believe from an MTN network level we're not limiting the loading any GPRS but I know that the SP's were removing GPRS

But the BRS is being completed where-by you can use your secondary as a Data sim - the bundle will be loaded on the Primary and should you use the secondary MSISDN as a data sim then it would deplete from your primary, my only concern is from an SP level if they limit you to no GPRS....... As MTN have no control of what the SP'S do......
