I have accounts with Telkom and Afrihost, but when I am connected to the Afrihost account, I cannot send e-mail from my Telkom e-mail address. Telkom don't relay mail from other networks, which is understandable.

My question is what is the simplest way of solving this problem.

you can use the IS smtp server, not sure what the addy is though :P

or even gmail smtp server

Set up your outbound Telkom SMTP server to be authenticated? i.e. so that you have to enter your Telkom credentials to use it.

I had a similar problem with my father's ADSL. Was with Mweb, configured his router to share my high-capacity account with a different ISP, and he couldn't send emails. Configured his mail client to authenticate to the SMTP server first, and he could send again.

You could also setup a GMAIL account and link your telkom account to that, with GMAIL you will be able to send mail from ANY internet connection including hotspots and the like

All the years, I have been with Telkom, authentication was never a requirement, and the times I tried it, I had hassles ... , but it is worth giving another attempt or two

Gmail allows you to send mail on behalf of other accounts, but to do that it first sends an authentication ticket to the other account to ensure that you are indeed the rightful owner of that other account.

To link another E-mail address with your Gmail account, go to Settings -> Accounts and Import and then click on the "Add another email address you own" link.

Just take note that using this option WILL not receive the E-mails on behalf of the other account too! For that you'll have to use the other option, such as "Add a POP3 mail account you own" OR by forwarding all your E-mails to your Gmail account.

I'm using Gmail to also receive my custom .za.net domain's E-mails, but for that I had to configure the MX records on my domain to point to Gmail's mail servers.
