Hi

Does anybody know if it possible to connect a dual LNB(basically a PVR in one building with extra view in a building roughly 50 metres away(a cottage) that is not conneted to the main building. So cable will need to run outside?

The point is having it all on one subscripion as buildings are so close

Any ideas

Thanks

Very doable...

I've just finished doing this myself.. granted its not 50m, closer to 35m but its still very doable.

Get a Multiswitch so you can split the cables correctly.. then run what you need to both PVRs... then run a single Coaxial cable from one PVR to the other and you should be good as gold.

You will then bash your head against the wall with the MC Call Centre while they setup XtraView.. but thats a different issue.

Don't know about the distance issue but I'm sure the cable should be fine so long as it's good quality and maybe install it in some conduit.

Doing it... Very close to 50m. two cables from the LNB, one cable between decoders, no issues. PVR and the like may require some more beef on the cables, so Multiswitch and the likes would more than likely be needed yes.

Thanks for help guys,I will investigate what you have written.I plan to use one PVR with a normal decoder. Not sure if this is a stupid question ,but do you run the cables in the ground?

I would run the cables from the dual LNB to the PVR, you won't need a muti switch if it's a 2 tuner. Then install a dish and single LNB at the cottage. Bury some conduit in the ground and run the XtraView cable through here.

This is probably the best way to do this... dish for each building.

For the XtraView cable, you can use irrigation pipe underground. Get an underground cable with PE jacket and a flooding compound. If you use a standard cable, it will last 2 years max...
