Hi

At my office I have a notbook and an external monitor connected and I use the external monitor to extend my desktop. Works lekker and I love it, especially when following some kind of manual etc. etc.

OK, Now I want to do the same thing with my desktop at home.

Do I need to install another graphics card, or do I get some kind of splitter monitor cable. If the former option is used are there any conflicts I need to know about. If I can use some kind of cable what do I need to get.

TIA

B.

The splitter box/cable will only clone one monitor onto different monitors.
Your graphics card should support dual monitors if yourpc has a dedicated card - not on board graphics

If your current vga card does not have two outputs, you have two choices.
1. Add an older pci card to support the second monitor (only on XP).
2. Rip out your current vga card and replace with a card that supports dual view (2 monitors).

check your grafix card,if you have one(pci-e/agp)Check at the back next to where your monitor plugs in, you will see a another plug with gold pins.get an adapter for that to fit your monitors cable(any pc store has it.)
This is as simple as i can make it.
Most grx cards come with this connector in your box(dvi adapter)ONce you have this adapter, plug it in the back next to where your monitor is plugged in and put the second monitor on this plug.Dual monitors is now ready.
Go into your nvidia control panel and set to dual view.Force a detection if you must, well thats easy dont you think

Do a google search on your gfx card model. Most modern entry level cards will let you run two monitors. One off the DVI and the other off the VGA port. There are DVI->VGA converters out there.
