What can I expect to pay for an entry level one, and where can I grab one from locally?

Routing network traffic involving two completely different protocol stacks? USB in paricular? Only suitable for light load home network, not for a workgroup router. Dual NIC has extra server features and is offloading CPU significantly. This is what you pay for.

If he established it was for work use and not home use I wouldn't have mentioned it.

You don't, you can do whatever you want, he was just questioning my choice of USB and PCIe and I was just throwing it out there to save you some cash.

Now that we know it's for work use, definitely go for the Intel NIC, it's made for server use.

Even for home use, is questionable. It put lot of stress on the system and latency is poor. I wouldn't recomment it unless for occasional use.
