These old dual view units, how much would be a reasonable price to buy one for, and can I use the dual view functionality of one without having to have a second decoder?

I phoned DSTV and they said I can, but would just like to confirm.

BTW I'm talking about the old units with dual view, AFAIK the new SD PVR units don't support that.

On price i have no idea what it should cost.

A DSTV SD PVR is dual view, it has RCA out as well as UHF, you use two remotes that are called tv1 or tv2

There is no such thing as a new SD PVR. They don't make them anymore and haven't for some time.

I sold my old SD PVR at the beginning of the year for R3200, it appears as if they're quite popular and sought after.

And yes, they are Dual View capable.

I would say anything from R2000 to R3000 would be a normal price.

Thanks, why are the SD PVR's sill listed under "decoders" on DSTV's website?

Oh, also do they last long? Like if were to purchase a secondhand one from about 2-4 years ago, would it still last me a while?

Because they are still supported and updated

Get a decoder care contract - if something happens to it, they will swop it out for a 'new' reconditioned unit.

I can get a decoder care contract even on a secondhand one?

Yes they are supported and updated, I have a decoder care contract and have swopped out my unit 4 times since inception, although you can't buy new... would you be interested in a 2nd hand one :) for say... R3500 :p

DCC's are not worthwhile in the first year for PVRs. It only costs R342 for a refurbished decoder if the decoder needs to be replaced & its out of warranty & you dont have DCC.
