Hi guys

I have gotten hold of a Dual view decoder (not pvr), any idea what dual view subscription is these days?

Probably the same as the Extraview setup. I have Extraview and pay R499 + R60,

not that bad then, if i split the subscription with my flatmate, works out to R280 each.

eish,
always admin....
the company who was going to setup my dish phoned me this morning saying that Multichoice won't give them a smartcard unless I get an affidavit from my folks stating that they gave the decoder to me (this is an old Dual View Decoder they stopped using when they got a PVR).

So how do i got about getting a smartcard without having to jump though hoops?

PS. Don't know what happened to the original smartcard that was in the Dual View as i stated below its my folks old decoder and they don't know what happened to the Smart Card

I think another option is for them to call in and mark the decoder as 2nd hand, as its prob still registered under their name.

I think it unlinks the decoder to a specific smart card then. Besides the affidavit option its the option MC gave me when i bought a 2nd hand decoder.

aaah, okay sounds easier.
planning on heading over to multichoice offices over lunch time, will see if the above can help in me leaving the office armed with a smartcard later :P

Try getting a signed letter from your parents stating that they have given you the decoder, include the decoder number on the letter.

You can even write the letter your self and sign it, MC won't know, just get a copy of your parent's ID and attach it to the letter.

Also if you don't have a smartcard it will cost you around R500 for a new one, which is a rip-off since you can get a decoder for that price.

yip, if it wasn't for me wanting the dual view functionality would have been easier to just buy a normal decoder....
don't want to spend money on a new decoder now, might only get a HD in the far future when prices have come down, the problems with them have been ironed out and there is some clarification as to if there will be additional subscription costs for HD channels....

PS. might be less of a hassle to go buy a new decoder just for the smartcard :P
