Due for upgrade: 8 Plus to what?

Hi everyone.
I have an iPhone 8 Plus with 268 GB memory. I currently use only about 49GB and all my music is on my phone.

I can upgrade now but don't know if I should. From what I have read on the net, the 8 plus is a very good phone and compared to the price of the XR & XS it is better to keep the 8 plus. I will not go for the XS plus as it is even bigger than my already big 8 plus.

I will really appreciate some pointer from ex-8 plus no XR & XS users.

When my 8 Plus 256GB was stolen recently I ended up going for the XR since the 8 Plus is only available in 64GB now.

I've actually found the slightly smaller size very comfortable to use despite what I'd expected, thanks to the XR's bigger screen. I found the Xs too small, and the Xs Max too big. Though the XR technically has a lower resolution than both Xs devices and the 8 Plus, I haven't noticed any difference.

The only drawbacks I've found is I miss my TouchID, but FaceID is actually great once you get used to it (and accept that it doesn't work in bed if holding your phone close your face). I also miss the dual lenses for photos when traveling.

That all being said, had my 8 Plus not been stolen I would've held on to it until I either needed a new phone, or a newer iPhone had a major differentiator to make the purchase worth it (which for me the XR and Xs/Xs Max lack).
 
Thank you very much for your replies. It really helps me a lot. I am now thinking towards getting a SIM deal only when I paid up my current contract. I will save about R800 a month. :unsure:

This year’s model will suck.. battery improvement yes but no 5G means in a year you will be sad. Don’t upgrade
 
I think a sim-only deal makes more sense. If I were you, I would wait until the next gen iPhone is launched. When everybody trades in their 1-year old XS models at iStore, you can pick it up for a steal. I got a pre-owned iPhone X from them last year for R7,499 (they gave me R3,000 for my old iPhone 7). It still comes with a one year warranty and I honestly couldn't tell that it had been used before - they really are built to last these days. I don't think I'll ever pay a fortune for the latest model again.

Could I have a bit more information on this please?
 
If you are happy keep what you have and downgrade to Prepaid and stop this deadly cycle of bi-annual bullshit.

XR is larger than the XS and may be the middle ground you like if you ever found the Plus just a bit oversize.


But terrible time of year to be upgrading, wait until September and see what is coming regardless if you choose to keep the 8 or not.
 
Keep it.

I still have my 6s (contract paid up & now on prepaid). The battery health is sitting at 85% and holding steady.

Will 5G really be better than 4G? I ask because I am quite happy with the speeds I get at present. I can stream without any issues with what I currently have. Granted it's only at 1080p.

edit: nevermind, I read some of the advantages besides speed (stability, reliability, lower latency, more capacity)
