Dumb Question

What the hell is IPConnect.

I mean I'm hearing about it all the time, left right and center, but dunno what it is.

Googling it returns Wireless networking and the likes.

any takers to explain how this system works ?

Telkom IPC enables an IAP (Internet Access Provider) or ISP (Internet Service Provider) to connect to Telkom ESR’s and Telkom satellite hub (Hartbeeshoek) to enable them to provide their own ADSL- and IPVSAT-related offerings (voice is still routed to licensed operators’ PSTN’s).

In layman's terms ... with IPC an ISP can provide ADSL users with internet access via their own network. I.E. The user will be allocated an IP address from the ISP's range and be routed via the ISP's upstream provider.

The costs are still rather steep but we're hoping things will improve as it becomes more popular.

I think it is Telkom's local internet backbone for South Africa.

“ISPs can either obtain connectivity through Telkom's IP Connect product, or by buying ADSL accounts from the Telkom-controlled South African Internet Exchange, SAIX.

So in other words it is just a method of connecting to the SAIX network.
