I would like to help my Gr 8 kid but have no clue either :)

What is a duplicate receipt in accounting terms? In Economic Management Sciences, they are taught that if a customer makes a cash purchase, the source document is a cash register roll (understandable), but if a customer owed the shop money (presumably this refers to account holders) and they pay that which they owe (or part thereof,) the source document is a "duplicate receipt". What is that?

@Snyper564 I think this in incorrect?

I was going to explain if a person goes to a clothing store and pays his account and buy clothes cash, he will recieve one cash reciept, at least I did years ago when I still had an Edgars account, but reading redviking post, thats sound more plausible.

It is like going to the video store in the early 2000's. You give the video back but you keep a copy as well.

Ok, my memory has been jogged,

So my understanding now is:

rh1 pays Redviking for services, Redviking gives the original reciept to rh1 and retains the carbon copy (duplicate receipt) as his source documentation.

But is that not true in case of a normal cash sale too? One receipt (what they call "cash register roll") for the customer and one for the business?

You know that tannie at spar at the till. She prints the receipts and then it takes her about 5minutes to figure out which one she must keep. And then she starts handing you the slip but quickly retracts and give you the other one.

10.2 Source documents used to record transactions
• Duplicate receipt: kept as proof of money received
• Cheque counterfoil: kept as proof that a cheque has been written out to pay for something
• Cash register roll: proof of money received for services rendered
• Duplicate deposit slip: as proof that money has been paid into the ban

A duplicate receipt refers to a copy of the original receipt that serves as proof of payment or proof of money received.

A duplicate receipt can also occur when an accounting entry is duplicated, meaning it is debited or credited twice for the same entry, resulting in an error of duplication.

I can confirm you google is also working.

Duplicate receipt means you bought something from a store. They keep a copy of the receipt and give you the original receipt.

This was covered in accounting in high school as I remember.
