Duracell Optimum batteries tested — with interesting results

Testing by MyBroadband revealed that Duracell Optimum batteries offer better performance than other alkaline batteries, but it is not significant enough to influence purchasing decisions.

In July, Duracell South Africa issued a press statement to promote its Duracell Optimum AA and AAA batteries which is now widely available in South Africa.

No thanks. Just buy rechargeables. Have my Energizer charger since yonks and saved probably boatloads over the years.
Exactly what I was thinking
Who still uses alkaline batteries anyways?
Can they deliver higher amp outputs than a rechargable?
What is the benefit of Alkaline nowadays?

OK, so test them at 0.115mA / 115 µA perhaps? (i.e. what e.g. a wall clock uses)

Alkaline batteries are not designed for high power draw. That is what rechargeable are for.

Who the **** is gonna stare at a wall clock for 5 years? That's how long my cheap energisers in my wall clock are here at work

Exactly! But that is what alkaline - as opposed to rechargeables - are for.

Stopped buying Duracell ages ago - they are much more prone to leaking acid than cheaper makes. Another brand that wants to be judged on its past achievements but, have dropped the ball on what they are marketing now.

Yeah Duracell is overpriced for what you get

I just found out that my kid's remote controled car isn't able to go up a small incline with rechargeables (brand new 2500mAh Duracell). It works fine with disposables. Probably something to do with the lower voltage of rechargeables.

Conclusion : disposables works better in some instances.

Alkalines are 1.5v and rechargeables are 1.2v so kinda makes sense I guess
