Brown Round Spots on White Roof Paint — Anyone Experienced This?

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with round brown spots appearing on white roof paint I used. Here’s the full situation:

  • All products and materials were new and cleaned properly before painting.
  • I used a primer and sanded down the surface initially.
  • The brown spots showed up on galvanized steel, precast wall panels, and even plastic surfaces.
  • I sanded down the spots until they were gone, and after that, the spots never came back.
  • When I switched to another paint brand, the problem disappeared completely.
  • I’ve contacted the original paint manufacturer and hope they’ll provide a solution soon.

Has anyone else experienced similar brown round spots on white roof paint? What would be the best way to fix this mess? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I need to resolve this issue quickly and avoid using this brand again.

Thanks in advance!

Are you referring to the ceiling? Or legitimately a white roof?

Also "galvanized steel, precast wall panels, and even plastic surfaces." none of this is a roof? So why would you use a roof paint? I'm afraid they'll simply tell you to **** off for using the wrong thing on the wrong surface.

I agree, except that galvanized IBR roof sheeting and corrugated iron (galvanized) is a thing...

Good day. I used the paint after preparing the surfacing only to find that the paint have brown spots in it. So at 1st I thought it might be rust. After which I then tested the paint on these other surfaces and that's when I notice that when the paint is drying it's starts getting these brown spots. I did contact them to even show them in a video that as the paint dries it's causing this issue. I hope this clears everything

can you please just post a photo, it is so much easier to see what a person means

I used it to paint my pallasades. It was stripped sanded down and sealed with ns4 after 2 days no issues however after applying the duram roofkote this happened

Was the pallasade galvanized metal before? Honestly it looks like metal filings in the paint that are rusting.

Palisades were red oxided. So decided to do a colour change. I did contact duram. Issue is the paint. However how do I fix this problem. To sand it down to bare metal and start over can't be the only solution. Also inside the drum of paint it also had the same brown spots.

Roof paint have been used on palisade fences, gutters and downpipes(that are galvanised) for decades. It lasts longer than
enamel and also not shiny.

Wait so the brown was there while it was in the can?

Did you mix it at all?

If you sand the whole thing it's going to rust before you're even finished. What was the feedback from Duram? I would try a high pressure washer first to see how much paint you can get off.

Yes mixed it well. Paint had this brownish colour as well as with after mixing it properly it seemed to be gone however further down the drum we noticed it was full of these brown spots. Even taking some of paint out and just leaving it would start with this brown spots appearing. So it was discovered the paint itself is the issue. Waiting on further feedback as they need to replace this product. Worse thing is all the labor and materials were wasted

Yeah sounds like some kind of fungal or mould infection.

I wouldn’t have risked it seeing that in the can still after mixing.

I’ve had some paint before get blue bits (in green paint) but after mixing it was gone.

Waiting on there full report. Another thing is the paint itself is when rubbish your hand on the Palisades is powdery.

Worse part is only after using about a litre this problem started had between 19 to 18 litres left. Now I need to find a solution. Does anyone have advice as IL be using a different brand of paint.
