2 kusile units accounts for one stage. What makes you think they'll be more reliable than the rest of kusile and Medupi though?

1.6 stages technically if running at full capacity (800MW each). I'm just talking about the new Kusile units which are being built, not the three which are currently down.

The last remaining 2 + the 3 that are off. So basically Kusile is running on one unit now.
Medupi is at 5

Could see less shedding in cpt from 2024 with the solarplant etc going live

That solar plant will only generate 7MW at the best of times. Compare that to Steenbras which generates 180MW irrespective of weather and then consider that the dam can usually only reduce LS by 1 stage.

Hopefully the IPP's that the City is negotiating with will bring more power to the table as they can generate up to 100MW each.

So simple question needing a simple answer.

Is load shedding pretty much on a daily basis here to stay for at least the next 5 years?

I ask because I want to make some life changing decisions based on this.

ie move overseas
It will get better once De ruyter is gone. it will go back to how it used to be before he stepped in. dont buy your tickets just yet.

I'm honestly not sure if you're just trolling or are really that blind to the realities of an unmaintained system

Lol....Thats the spirit of 2023...
We can do anything once de Ruyter is gone...

Remember can generate 100MW translates to average 25MW so you'd need to have 8 of them to bring down 2 stages of shedding.

Doesn't matter, if the situation improves then it's a "I told you so", if the situation remains or deteriorates then a convenient excuse (third force, wasn't done as planned, w/e) will be given. Will see if the posts aged like fine wine or sour milk.

Yep, given the variables with renewables.

And as far as I know, CoCT has only contracted 200MW from IPP's to date, so in reality, only just over 50MW of new capacity within the next two years.

Which won't cover a stage of shedding, won't really help with steebas either.

Yeah. I'm not impressed with the DA being so unambitious regarding their IPP proposals.

Well there are a few things, cost, believing the lies about renewables, cause they see 200MW and go wow that's 2 stages of shedding, when in reality it's like half a stage most of the time.

CT should be building offshore wind farms like there's no tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure the engineers working at the council tell the politicians though.

Seems like this is most politicians, the way the world is investing in renewables, hey we can build 1GW solar plant, how much will it generate well 250MW maybe.
