Durbanville ADSL Users (Your feedback needed)

Recently moved from Sontraal Heights to Vierlanden, anyone else experiencing slow speeds in this area?

Got home at about 10 last and checked speeds on P2P, couldn't get over 10kb/s with good seeders. (Yes I know I should rather use NZB's)

Pings are also a bit higher on BF3, used to be 11 - 25 in Sontraal, now averages at about 50.

On OpenWeb 4mb Kamers King. Just havent had the time to troubleshoot.

From what I remember, Vierlanden had horrible line issues. Not so much with congestion, but just with lines in general.

A client of mine used to have a home-office just off Murray, think it was Florida Street... They had a 4meg line and were getting problems with just about every service - from browsing to Emails. At some point Telkom bumped them to 10meg...things got even worse :erm:

How do your router stats look?

Doesn't Pinehurst hook up to one of Kraaifontein's DSLAM's?

You can check here, if you aren't sure:

Thanks for that site.

It says I am connected to the Durbanville Exchagne. No mention of specific Dslam...I think I am on the RST4 dslam last time I phone telkom and asked. Also 10mb enabled etc...but again damn Dslam is limited to 4mb. Think I need to call em again today and just ask them to try and sync me at 10 and see what happens :D

Good luck with that, sometimes they are hesitant to try... but if you nag nicely enough you get lucky :p

Router stats? Can you elaborate a bit? Got a TP-Link W8960N

I am not familiar with the TP-Link devices, but most routers have a "Status" or "Statistics" menu where you can view your line attenuation etc.

This info is usually helpful in diagnosing some issues that one may be experiencing.

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
The following Telkom service is available in your location:

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for 10Mbps

You are connected to the DURBANVILLE (WDBV) exchange.

Yet I have 4Mbps

I'm also on that exchange. I think they're upgrading line by line and/or area by area.

Probably. Mine was syncing at 8008 before I did a line fix on the Afrihost Clientzone website.

Pray tell sir what fix on the client zone? Logged in to have a look see and cant find anything that says reset line? Thanks,

P.S. I called Afrihost to speak with a support agent and was greeted with an automated message saying they all out celebrating their 13th birthday. Good on them!

Are they managing your line also? Its on the new ClientZone under the Telkom telephone line. "Tweak my line" or something.

Yup, I see this under my Telkom like:
[log support ticket]
[cancel]
[request package change]
[test line]
[fix my adsl line]

Which one did you tick?

Oddly enough, my router broke this past Friday, wouldn't resolve the DNS, even after a hard reset and reconfigure.

Tried the billion router, now all is well.
