A non-drowsy antihistamine
Cleaning / vacuuming

Thanks. We vacuum the house regularly, i dont have carperts, but still vacuum all the floors. I do have curtains though - heard this might be an issue

There are also plenty of sprays.

Bedding is also a big issue. Try to wash your bedding at least every two weeks with hot water.

Wash curtains, mattress, bedding and any material or fibre objects in and around your bedroom, lounge, living space.
Use a quality vacuum cleaner else you are just re-distributing the dust in your house.

For treatment speak to your doctor about immunotherapy or sublingual/subcutaneous immunotherapy (SLIT/SCIT).

There are also plenty of sprays.

I saw this, anybody used any of these and can recommend? My child is allergic, so something to keep in mind in terms of suggestions

It’s part of your attack. Not the only thing you need to do.

There is a list here.

I got hay fever, and allergic to grass and dust. So extra work for me.

Like the OP I have (severe) problems with dust mite allergy.

A normal range is 0.00 to 0.35 IU/ml (whatever that unit is), my reading is 4.55 which is 1300% greater than the upper 'normal' limit.

The doctor was perplexed because I don't have any other allergies, he said something to the effect that something brought it on (which must have been when I was young as I have had symptoms since I can remember).

He prescribed an anti-allergen bed protector and wrote down "Allsa" but I can't find the brand on google so I'm currently considering Dream Guard or Buglock bed protector/encasement (any suggestions or experience with bed cover anybody ?)

Apart from that I am now spraying my bed with "Mite free" spray which can be bought at Dischem in addition to putting my mattress in the sun from time to time.

Any further input would be appreciated...

Would be good to know your experience, i was going to buy it this weekend, but didnt get a chance.

Regarding the mattress cover, sure the pray should sort it out and is something which can be used on pillows, curtains etc?

Yes, that's the one. Only got it yesterday so I will give it some time to see how it goes.

I'm going all out, even if the spray works well. My experiences with this bloody allergy have not been conducive to say the least.

There is an laundry detergent additive that you add when washing your laundry. I am allergic, so been doing this for years.

Oops, replied above before reading the rest. Yes this is the one. There was another brand we used for years before it went off the market. No issues with this brand.

Since we're boycotting Dischem, there's some options on Takealot too:

My strategy to manage my allergy is as follows:

Laminated flooring and tiling. No carpets.
Regularly washing our bedding with the mitefree additive.
So far so good, no issue in years following this.

I think we okay, as I think since we follow more of a preventative strategy. But good advice nonetheless.
