Dutch Development Jobs

Might be problematic, might need some form of local (Dutch based) payroll. Also, easier and better to just work for a Dutch company, as you might qualify for the 30% ruling if you plan it correctly
Depends, but let's assume for a moment the work is in SA for reasons.

I tried this initially. Was a nightmare with regards to tax. As I was the main breadwinner, I needed to have things in place in the Netherlands to sponsor my partner (I have an EU passport, but my partner has a SA passport, so I need to prove income)

In the end it was just easier looking for work this side

OK but consider the main bread winner is over there winning bread on a highly skilled visa on a decent salary and the spouse working remotely for an SA company wants to take all those Rands (which is a couple of thousand Euro equivalent and comes with remote work freedom) and ship it off to Interactive Brokers or some investment platform.

So it seems pretty straight forward. If you stay in the Netherlands with your spouse you are a tax resident (I assume), so all you do is declare your income on your tax return and tell them not to tax you on it again.

Yes, something like that. There is a double taxation agreement with South Africa as well

With the current Rand / Euro exchange rate, I don't get why you would want to earn in Rands, add to that the benefits of the 30% rule - but your decision. Just know 99% of IT work here is also remote, due to Covid

It will be much easier for you to do something like this as you are not the main breadwinner

Because it is easier for one of us to get work we like than both of us to get work together that we both like at more or less the same time? I mean, once you are there you can look for work (may miss out on 30% ruling) but the point is that you do not want to stop your income stream or go work for a company that slowly kills your soul for the sake of.

What if your net Rands in Euros is more than or equal to the net Euros you can get in the short term?

What if one of us would prefer to rather stay in Cape Town than Europe and have an opportunity now? Can take the job, work it for a year and then switch over the a Dutch job.

...or we can both get jobs and there's no problem.

Lots and lots of scenarios that can play out. Need to cover for all of them.
