Hi all

To make a dvd and watch it on your dvd player. (and the dvd can't play data dvd's), what program would you advise me.

Does the DvD programs come standard with a "menu maker" or what?

nero express has a basic built in avi->DVD maker, complete with menu maker thing as well - it takes a while to do, but gets the job done.. depends if you want a basic method or one of the heavy duty fancy appz to do the job..
dunno if this helps..

Pinnacle Studio 10, you can make it look so good that you'll think it was bought. Nero Vision Express is ok very basic but you can make Titles and chapters and it retains the quality quite well, takes about 2 - 3 hrs to encode tho (I have a P4 3.2 HT and 512Mb ram in the vid editing machine).

Tip of the day : With vision express first write the output file to an ISO load up in Deamon tools or something similar and test screen your movie before comitting it to disk.

If you have a Mac, you can just use iDVD which came with it. Really couldn't be simpler to make good looking DVD

I've tried Pinnacle Studio plus 10, DVR Studio Pro and Tmpgenc DVD Author 2.

Pinnacle was difficult to use & didn't recognise .TS files. Also I couldn't see a decent preview of the movie as I edited it. I didn't find a lot of depth to this one.

DVR Studio Pro was better for editing and more intuitive.

Tmpgenc DVD Author was great for editing. You can see straight away what the movie would be like. This package is quite established now from the enthusiasts market so it doesn't have that retail package gloss.

Menu creation and titling is pretty standard. Also writing direct to DVD or file function is included.

Where are your videos coming from? This will determine to some extent what software you need.

Adobe Encore DVD
Makes menus, chapeters, ect.
Output to DVD folder. Test. Write to DVD.

Also using Adobe Premier for editing the video.

Using P4-3.0Ghz. +-45min
Using E6600(2.4ghz) +-15-25min

So I tried writing an avi file (350mb) to dvd, but it shows up as 2gig on nero.

After it is written, the sound is 2 times quicker than the picture.

What am i doing wrong...

Nero is encoding it to the bitrate you selected thereby increasing the size, it would be easier to simply burn the file as a VCD (i would assume the video is less then 80 minutes)

In Nero, use the "Make Video CD" option, simply add the file in there, it will also re-encode it but will hopefully keep the audio in sync
