Actually I'd recommend h.264. If you can suffer the longer encoding time I think it much better bang for your buck.so handbrake is for dvd-2-divx only and doesnt support any other formats really. tried mov and mpg.
doesnt matter really, just wanted to conv from dvd to divx

Get your hands on a elgato turbo.264
I've got better uses for ÂŁ100 but then I have a few machines and at least one is usually idle at any given timeI've been tempted - do these get hot?

forgive me for sounding stupid but is h.264 a format of divx? im mainly encoding to divx for dvd players that can play divx as well.
So, in the context of the original posting, a user would first have to rip the dvd (to remove any copy protection) before he could use the elgato turbo.264?
Handbrake's one stop shopping sure seems simpler.
They really need to update their website thenno the turbo rips it.
Those people hoping the turbo will be a speedy way to put their DVD collection on their Apple TV should think twice, however, as you must first decrypt each DVD, and even if successful, not all titles will successfully export from the turbo.
I've ripped (and in some cases re-ripped many that I had previously done in xvid) my dvd collection using H.264.What codecs/encoding do the ripped movies floating around the ether use? They always seem to achieve much better quality per filesize than I did when I toyed around with this.
