Hi,

Has anyone purchased the MSI GTX 460 1GB Cyclone Card?

Can u tell me if the DVI to HDMI Adapter is included in the package?

Also,if u use this adapter,is it the same as using a straight HDMI to HDMI cable without this adapter?

Thanks in advance.

Hi frank

You will have the same video qualty when using DVI compared to HDMI. It is also possible to get sound out of the DVI port if the GFX card has built-in audio, and the specific cable that you get is capable of carrying the audio signal with the video.

Not sure if you do get one with the MSI though.

You will get sound from a DVI port if you use a DVI-HDMI adapter and a HDMI-HDMI cable.

You will not get sound if you use a DVI-HDMI cable. Will have to have a separate optical cable to transfer sound.

You're talking BS. DVI port does not have sound, so there is no way that the DVI-HDMI adapter can magically create sound from nowhere...

Erm, go read up somewher on the net. I had a HD4870. Sound worked with the adapter on a DVI port.

Some ATI cards have onboard audio and you do really get sound from the DVI port, don't know about the GTX 460 though.

I apologize.

I didn't know that some video cards supported audio over DVI. I can't find much on this topic, but from what I dug up, it seems like HD 3000 / GTX 200 or newer cards could allow you to do that.
I always thought that the HDMI & DVI cables had separate wires for the audio, but now that I've looked at it again, they only have data wires that can be used either for video/audio.

I also thought he was talking BS. I didn't think it was possible to send audio over DVI. I learnt something new today.

You do get sound over dvi. I had a 4890 and with a dvi-->hdmi adaptor and and hdmi cable I got good HD audio on my monitor.... So YES DVI ports(output) can definitly carry audio.
