DVI to HDMI

Why not get a Universal Remote?

How does a Universal remote work?

Will it be able to control a Sony Bravia, an old Wharfdale dvd-player, a cheapish Sansui surround system and a Soundblaster Audigy soundcard?

Hi

You should have received a ATI branded DVI to HDMI converter with your graphics card which allows sound to be transmitted via the DVI port to your HDMI TV or amplifier. This is contrary to the DVI standard of not transmitting sound.

I have an ASUS EAH3850 Radeon in my HTPC and the only output I have is the HDMI connection to my amplifier using a standard HDMI cable and the ATI DVI-to-HDMI adapter, and I get both video and 5.1 sound :D

FYI:
All ATI Radeon 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870, 4670, 4850, 4870, 4850x2 & 4870x2 series graphics cards transmit HDMI sound via their DVI port if the ATI branded DVI-to-HDMI adapter is used.

BTW:
My first card was a Sapphire 3650 ATI Radeon, but I returned it because the ATI adapter wasn't supplied with it and trying to source this adapter locally is a pain to say the least. At the time I couldn't even get it on eBay (beware there are two adapters made by ATI: one for the 2xxx series and one for the 3xxx/4xxx series and they won't work in place of the other).

I currently have my pc connected to tv from DVI to VGA on the tv. Is it worth it to get a DVI to HDMI converter and connect it to the HDMI port on the tv? Or won't I see a difference?

If you have a nice LCD TV, yes there will be a huge difference compared to a CRT TV

Yup.

Pretty much any audio/video place would have.

I've heard the smaller Logitecs are pretty good - they're at Dions Wired

I had my TV, DVD, Decoder and even my old Video Machine connected to my Universal Remote. How it worked: on top I had 4 mode buttons one for each and with the remote comes a programming guide. You will find the model number of your tv,dvd.... find the corresponding code in the guide and program it in. The remote will then only transmit the IR signal in the selected (appliance) mode's format. And there you go 1 remote for all(Universal).

Like I said I would do yesterday, here are the model numbers:
DVD Player: DVP-NS708P
Amplifier: DA3300ES.

Hi Keith,
I did not get a DVI-HDMI Converter with mine, I only got 1 DVI-VGA converter.

Also recently got a Radeon 3470 for my HTPC (Sapphire). It doesnt come bundled with a DVI-HDMI adapter, but when installing it (drivers) it does add an audio output for the GFX card. Should I speak to suppliers about it, or is it a hopeless one?

Mic_Y:
All Sapphire ATI 34xx & 36xx series cards don't come with the adapter which is a problem if you want to get audio through DVI, that's why I got the ASUS 3850. It's the cheapest card with the adapter included.

gtRpr:
I got both adapters with my ASUS card. I suggest you speak to your supplier cause it mght be that the adapter was removed from your box for a client who bought a 3650 card :(
Does it say on the side of your graphics card box that the DVI-to-HDMI adapter is included in box?

haha, that is some great advertising for you: supports audio via HDMI 1.3 except that they forget to tell you that you need an adapter which is not bundled. hopefully I get something right with this, else I just uuse coax and run the digital signal to a receiver.
