hi guys

once I have converted a standard disk (in win xp) into a dynamic disk, can I go back to standard

thanks

Not if I recall correctly.

[EDIT] I recalled wrong - kinda. ;) Check here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309044

Before you change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk, note that all existing volumes must be deleted from the disk before you can convert it back to a basic disk. If you want to keep your data, back up the data, or move your data to another volume.

yeah the problem is that I need the data on there! I know its easy enough to convert back, but I have an active volume on there!

haha Im supposed to be the one that knows about this stuff, but honestly I have never worked on a dynamic disk and I'd like to settle an argument with a work colleague.

there is not a method to do this process without losing the data? (sorry I meant this in the first post, I wasnt clear!)

There is a method (read it on google) to convert to basic without losing data, but since I'm a n00b and had space available to back up, I backed up ;)
