I was wondering if anyone could suggest a decent e-reader for me on a budget. All the tablets are too expensive especially since I only want a reader, not all the other perks.

I don't want to pay more than R1000. I saw an advert for Kalahari's Gobii, anyone got their hand on one?

Please feel free to suggest any product, I don't have any brand allegiances expect to Woolworths for their fruit, dairy and menswear. :)

The Kobo touch is the only real eink based reader that would fall in the price range. Normal price is R995 and apparently they'll go on special from tomorrow at Pick n Pay Hypers for R795.

It all depends on what you want to do.

Gobii is a great hybrid - its neither a table or a true e-reader. You can watch videos, listen to music and read some PDFs. Screen resolution is low but standard for R1K device. Has no wife and its not touch. Not anti-glare.

Kobo is a great e-reader. You use it to read books and thats it, oh, you can also listen to music if you want. Same panel as Kindle. Touch, awesome social features. Bought my daughter one and will get myself one as well.

You can get a kindle for 1k, highly recommend one!

OK then, so how far are you from a PnP Hyper?

400km. I know the George PnP is listed as one that stocks the Kobo, but that isn't a hyper so not sure if the special applies. Not that I'm in the market for one. My Sony T1 is still going strong.
