E-tag, e-toll bill complaints

So how does this thing work?

Capped at R450 if you have a tag but you still get handed over? :wtf:

If the thing is capped when you reach R450, surely then just let it run to R450 and then stop - then the next time the user comes in to recharge, take off the amount owed first and carry on. If the user doesn't come in after 30 days, then hand over and pursue them for the R450.

LOL - methinks the Public Protector needs to step in to protect the public from these unscrupulous buggers

Capped only applies if you are in good standing. What else is the purpose of having a tag and not paying?

so given that he hit his R450 cap he shouldn't have been billed further, it's a friggen disaster and just another indication of how useless SCAMRAL are

OMB, no point in explaining that simplistic snippet to a failed private detective troll as he cannot count or think that effectively!

"I bought an eTag 'coz I do not want to get into trouble with the laws and 'coz of the R450 limit and 'coz I travel a lot and I would score. Now I are kakking myself 'coz the eToll is threatening to put me on the blacklist and they know where I work and live and also now they are coming after my inheritance, according to Tannie Kotie across the road"

Bleeding heart, indeed. Fortunately, going public these days is a lot easier.

Walked past the etoll shop at the mall, lots of angry people waiting in line, person at the front seemed frustrated and angry trying to explain. I feel sorry for the people working there, they did not design this disaster, they are merely trying to earn a living. The only reason why people pay taxes is because companies deduct it before paying out salaries, still a lot of people do not even bother filling in their tax returns because it is simply too much pt. (Even though they could get a couple of bucks from the receiver, it is not worth the effort, I know such people). Why would people comply with such a joke of a system? I am sure people have better things to do than check the weekly etoll accounts.
Time to admit defeat and let us find a workable solution. Fuel levy!!!
Why wait for the next credit downgrade and foreign investment outflows (which will result in more jobs lost).

The current fuel levy (not the other levies) is about R2 per litre and nets R40 billion a year. If they increase it by R1, they can pay the GFIP roads off in 1 year, then they can build 185km of GFIP class road every year going on...

Away with your logic - and how, pray tell, is a tenderpreneur and foreign partner supposed to siphon money out of such an arrangement.

And when you linger in an etoll shop, 95% of people there are actually complaining/trying to resolve billing issues. None of them have an intention to sign up. April is around the corner for another epic Moody's downgrade and then it's tickets for Sanral.

BTW: Fuel-levy is R2.12 (http://www.shell.com/zaf/products-services/on-the-road/fuels/petrolprice.html)

If the self-serving ****wits in government just reign in their misspending a smidgen there'd be no need for an additional fuel levy, let alone R1/l... are you mental?

For what it's worth (I could not find any more up-to-date stats), but in 2009, South Africa consumed 11,3bn litres of petrol and 9,1bn litres of diesel. Even if we just take consumption at the same amount and times it by the fuel-levy of R2/litre, that amounts to R40bn going to the fiscus per annum. That just shows you how badly Sanral/government mismanages fuel-levies - based on the fuel-levy there would have been never a need to construct e-tolls.

More up-to-date info found about the fuel-levy (although this is for RAF which is another R1/per litre) - http://www.raf.co.za/about-us/pages/fuel-levy.aspx

But that budget for the fuel levy is already allocated to fraud, corruption and other projects that has nothing to do with roads and transport services (Nkandla et al). Therefore there must be think tank teams to explore and make plans how to extort more funds from Joe the middle-class citizen.

I will patiently wait for a summons to appear in court. After proving my (very simple) case I will sue Scamral for costs. I really need a holiday...

But it didn't say he went over the cap - just that his prepaid amount ran out. He basically went into dept then from what I understand.
