E-toll alternative routes will be maintained

Looks at large sections of the R101 in centurion and midrand... hopefully better than currently.

Not that the R101 qualifies as an alternative route. Alternative route implies that it will be able to cope with traffic volumes in any way, shape or form, which is most definitely not the case with that particular road.

That's even more true.

The R55 between blue hills and main road is just as useless.

And the R562 cant handle all the traffic either, the backups at lever road intersection can be epic.

Yeah, you're basically screwed if you want to head down south without using the N1. Unless of course you work some really strange office hours, in which case you may be able to get by without being too badly affected.

There are no alternative roads for these highways, parts of which have been in use for about 40 years.

This is what makes this whole thing such a farce.

the R103 between Johannesburg and Heidelberg
:wtf:

that section of the N3 that runs parallel to the R103 doesn't even have tolls, so what kind of alternative is that???

more government BS

Definitely.
And Olifantsfontein road. It's been upgraded but it's still not great.
The R55 and R101 are both crappy, slow, overcrowded, and oh, did I mention it's not really a viable option?

Old Jhb/Pta sections are just fricken nasty.. is that 'acceptable standard'? and during the time that these roads need to be maintained, will the N1 be allowed use as 'free' since the alternative is not up to spec?

“The department… will maintain the alternative provincial routes to an acceptable and safe level on an ongoing basis so as to obviate concerns that the secondary road network will be degraded through the anticipated increase in traffic volumes on these routes.”

I LMAO at these clowns. They haven't been doing up until now. What chance will we have on these roads if you suddenly have to maintain them now with increased flow of traffic. Clearly they take us for fools

I'm more than just a little bit suspicious of the motives behind this statement: alternate routes have been overloaded for years without etrolling with very little alternate road maintenance taking place; the implication of the statement is that the traffic flowing through these alternate routes will frequently be restricted and frustrated even further by constant "road works" (the kind where traffic is brought to a standstill where no actual road works are taking place).

Is this the cANCer party's way of trying to push motorists off of alternate routes and onto the etrolled routes?

I don't have a viable non-toll alternative. So your statement falls on deaf ears here, dipschits...

We know it's a scam to get back their pension money they spent! Do you honestly think after all this they actually care about us?

I got back to Jozi today and passed 4 gantries, roughly R20 which is absolutely bull. I see no difference in road compared to before, actually worse now with all orange signs everywhere.

It will fail, we will not sponsor corruption

Question, is it even possible to get to JHB International without hitting one of these damned toll gantries?

Have done it before from Randburg, as there were all sorts of issues on the highway that day but it took **** long, and that will get worse when everyone starts using alternate routes
