E-toll testing starts in KZN

So is the end game to toll every damn road in the country? So tax and car licences fees no longer cover these?
 
On Monday Sanral spokesperson, Vusi Mona, told Fin24 that the agency observed an increase in e-toll collections in Gauteng for the months of May and June.

According to Mona the announcement of reduced fees by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in May had a positive impact on the attitude of road users towards e-toll payments

these type of quotes seem familiar to what they were trying to spew out when they rolled out e-tolls in the first place

You don't know what you are talking about or can I just say shutup?

The N3 is already bloody tolled and if you don't want to pay, you can use the old pre-N3 route, N3 was newly built.

All they want to do now if make it easier to go thought the boomed gantries in some of the toll gate lanes, no sitting behind some dunderhead looking around for change.

I fully support these, instead of the GFIP e-toll crap (no new roads).

The road is already tolled, the idea is so that motorists coming from Gauteng can use their E-Toll tag instead of cash, if they so wish.

To be honest though the headline is a little misleading - It's not all of KZN - just the N3 bit inside KZN...

Completely agree with this, I fully support THIS e-tolling attempt, as long as they don't try remove the older payment methods, I do not want to have an "account" with SANRAL at all.

Much appreciated. Wasn't aware of this. never been to Durban via the N3 route.
 
This is just one way for people to get tags, think about it for a minute? I refuse to buy an etag for GFIP and the want to travel to said Durban, as soon as I load cash on my tag, I'll be back charged for what is owed under my name. If they make all toll gates e-tolls then there's no way around boycotting the GFIP toll crap. So there's pros and cons to this...

I wouldn't take any other route to Durban from Gauteng.

The alternative routes are more potholes than asphalt.

I think the idea is for the Etoll to be an option on the N3 - not to get rid of the manual payment at the gantries.

the article doesn't even say it's in KZN, just that it's on the N3 between Durban and Gauteng, in fact I think they've been testing for a while now as there's been a contraption on one of the bridge's in the Free State that I noticed some months back (I travel that highway on a monthly basis), there's the UV lights and some sort of transmission box by the looks of it, just no cameras.

I very much hope so tbh...

I think they're also aware that currently the N3 has a 100% payment rate (since you HAVE to pay to use it), if they went e-toll only on that route the percentage would fall quite sharply.

Yes, I wont be able to utilise it, just like I can't on the N4/N1 Bakwena toll roads where this is already active.

If I stayed in Heidelberg and never used the GIFP roads and often drove down towards the Durban way, then I'd get it.

Having a card only lane like on the N1 tollgates would be nicer for me. It's a lot faster than sitting behind people looking for change...
 
If you guys truly think that this won't go the same way as the GP eTolls... Time and time again the ZANC show their colours and yet people don't learn - this is just another boiled frog scenario... I will gladly stand to be corrected but, if I look back at history, I feel that in this I unfortunately won't be.

Please explain how you see it going?

I don't see it going like GFIP e-tolls, they will have booms, they will have other methods of payments.

They learned their lesson about open road tolling, why do you think they want to have booms again with the "improved" (not new) Cape Town toll roads they want to implement?
