E1820 External Antenna Connector

This is all about this thread, that E1820 and similiar (K4505) need to be placed on the roof while modems with properly implemented external antenna connector do not. Yes, as reported by ginggs, K4605 don't need to be placed on the roof.
@Gervre: Tricky and cheating external antenna connector as implemented in E1820 could be for bypassing to the chipset limitation. It is what I refered as a workaround.

I have a E1820 and a ZTE MF668 that I use in my MR3420 with an inductive coupler and an external antenna - works very well with both 8ta and CellC

Would there be any benefit in me getting the direct cable to modem connection for my antenna? with only one or either modem?

Or, connect the antenna to the modem using an inductive coupler instead of a direct connection.

For the Huawei E1820, no, using the direct cable connection can make things worse if your modem is unable to "see" the same base station from indoors that your external antenna is aimed at.

For the ZTE MF688 (if this is the same modem as the Vodafone K4505-Z), using a direct cable connection can improve your signal strength by about 6-12dB. Whether this is worth doing really depends on your current signal strength and speeds. If the base station is overloaded you won't see any speed improvement at all.

My signal (on the router) is 77% for 8ta and 100% for CellC, so I will just be wasting my money and have hassles as both won't work with direct connection

What is your signal strength in dBm? (Check on your PC with MDMA)

I'm not sure what 77% means, but unless your signal is really poor (-95dBm to -105dBm) I think you will just be wasting your money.

just tested it quickly

RSSI on 3G
8ta = -67dBm
Cell C = >=-51dBm

As per:
Marginal - Levels of -95dBm or lower. At these sort of levels, it is very likely that you may suffer low throughput and disconnects due to cell loading/breathing even with an outdoor antenna.

Workable under most conditions - Levels of -85dBm to -95dBm. Probably worth considering an outdoor gain type antenna. Could suffer poor throughput and disconnects due to cell loading/breathing.

Good - Levels between -75dBm and -85dBm - normally no problem holding a connection with this sort of level (even with cell breathing) without the use of an external antenna.

Excellent - levels above -75dBm. Should not be affected by cell breathing/loading and should not require an external antenna.
Your 8ta and Cell-C signals are already both above -75dBm so there is very little to be gained by changing your inductive coupler for a direct connection.

True, but my reply was specific to NSB who knows the problem (from his experience) and is asking specifically for K4605.

I have an external antenna mounted VERY high and the Cell C tower is about 900m from my house, but not line of sight.

Without the antenna I get -71dBm in my house

I know that the e353 should have the same chipset as the e367, but can anyone confirm from experience that the connector for external antenna works properly?
