hi guys,

I need advice please.Im currently building a secondary pc for my younger cousin to play some of the older games from afew years back on.well the specs are as follows:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo
nVidia 8600GT
3GB DDR2 RAM running at 800mhz
500GB HDD

my question is I have two CPU's available to me at the moment although my friend is taking one of them later in the week to build a pc as well.

I used the Intel website to compare the two,but for the life of me,i cant figure out which one would be better for this build

Intel® Pentium® Processor E2180 (1M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) (which is newer but slower er ?) or

Intel® Pentium® D Processor 930 (4M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) (which is older but seems faster ?)

will this CPU even work in this mobo?

which would be better all round?

Thanks

The motherboard supports both chips, depending on the bios version, so they will definitely work. I guess the games don't require much cpu grunt? If so I guess it would not matter, but since the E2180 is based on the better architecture compared to the D930 (Basically just 2 Pentium 4's stuck together), I would choose that. So E2180 it is.

According to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/midlow_range_cpus.html if I read it correctly the e2180 is faster than the Pentium D (score 1121 vs 812)

E2180 is quite a bit better especially when you start overclocking it. should be able to get 2.6GHz (infact higher) without an issue on the stock cooler.

e2180 user core 2 duo tech, p4 is dirt slow.

my e2160 did 3ghz on stock cooler, should get 3ghz easy.
