Hi, a few years ago my E220 started disconnecting everytime i plugged it in after a few seconds, as if i had unplugged it from the usb port. The dashboard autorun would keep popping up. I found that enabling pin request would stop it doing this. I havn't used the modem for a while and today tried it again and now pin request doesn't solve the problem anymore. I enter the pin dial up and a few seconds later it disconnects as if i unplugged it. This only started happening after i flashed it with the MTN firmware, but it worked fine for months after doing the flash so i don't think it was that. Is there anything i can do to keep it connected? Thanks

If you can return to the original firmware, do it first, it could be failed flash too. If doesn't help, I suspect contacts got corroded after long time o not using (exposed to the air). Plug in, unplug 10 times (from both sides), there are self-cleaning plugs. Remember to use supplied with the modem Y cable. Autorun poping up indicates it could be power delivery problem.
The last thing I would try is another firmware. There are recommendations on this forum, use search engine. Updated firmware can be required for updated software on the tower, but most probably a cause is power delivery to the modem.

Edit: Early E220 (3.6mbps) need to be firmware ugraded to 7.2mbps. If you have such early device, make firmware upgrade first.

Yea it was flashed to 7.2. Another thing, i had to set it to 3g only with pin request on, to solve the disconnects, if it was set to edge/gprs, it was nearly impossible to change back to 3g because it would disconnect b4 i could change it back in the dashboard. Using the extra usb connection didn't help either. My adsl was fixed so don't really need it now, i'll probably buy a new modem anyway if needed. Thank for the suggestions.

This makes me more convinved that your modem is not supplied with sufficient power. Before firmware upgrade to 7.2Mbps modem did not try to negotiate higher speed and power supplied from your USB port was right. Now is not sufficient. You can fix it by returning to original firmware, but better solution is to fix power problems, as it would demonstrate with new modems too. I mean USB port on your PC is not supplying enough power. It could be solved by using different port or self-powered USB 2.0 hub.
