E5331 External Antenna (HACK!!??)

Has ANYONE managed to get antenna to fit this bad boy ?
I have resorted to cancel my Afrihost because of ****ty signal (bleh, MTN),
I am sure a plan can be made

Fan-Tenna

You can make an antenna using and old fan with metal cage. Remove the front cover from the fan (most of them just clip off). Place the E5331 in the center of cover but dont let it touch the metal. once you know which direction to point in, you will need to test the correct depth to place the modem by slowly moving the modem fron the center of the cover out.

It works I have one with a wifi dongle and instead of getting just a few meters range I get about 3km range from it.

Just to let you know I have not given up on this
Ordered a modem to antenna adapter, and antenna to resolve my blues.
Will let you know of the outcome !

Well, bought he antenna- did not make much of a difference to my signal though, sadly the building obstructs the signal penetration :-(

You're wasting your time with a modem. You need to a get a proper 3G router with a solid proper external antenna jack, like the Huawei B683 or Huawei B660. Also you need to get a proper directional high gain 3G antenna like this one from Uniterm:

With this combination I can almost guarantee that you will get excellent results.

The MiFI device seems to have a really crappy antenna.

I am using a Hauwei E367 and with that my signal is much better than with the MIFi device even when in the same location - I get an extra bar or two.
So perhaps see if you cannot borrow someones 3G dongle and give that a try.
