Ha ha no comment necessary from me! :)

But in saying that I have to admit I do not know too much about the other two... as has been discussed before I suppose it depends on your needs/use

for sure N82 for your vote :)
well the E71 has a great keyboard and a nice solid metal jacket
this will be a tough decision, especially now that the N96 has entered the room
basically now i'm just comparing specs of all the latest nokias

Dudley, the N96 does not do much more than the N82 can (in fact less as it has no xenon flash)... most reviews have questioned Nokia's thinking... by all accounts the N96 was a year too late. Yes, it has more storage but that is what SD cards are for.

well agreed, for all intents and purposes all the new Nokias are pretty much the same.
i noticed that the review says N82 comes with Installed Maps application covering over 100 countries?
whats weird with the Nokia though is that they dont support that many MM formats?

MM formats? I assume you mean multimedia in which case there are plenty apps available to play almost any format you can think of. It comes preinstalled with RealPlayer and flash player... i've loaded DivX player and PowerMovie.

The N82 also comes with two years voice navigation here in SA. You usually have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription for that.

Ha ha and for good measure Dudley look at what is on the horizon :

Final words

The good thing Nokia N85 does is take (almost) all the Nseries have delivered to date and put it in a neat and tasteful package. There are no groundbreaking novelties but what you get is quite worth it. And the display… well you do need to see it.

Nokia N85 didn't hit the market so bitterly overpriced as the N96. Nor was the wait so hyped - instead it almost instantly felt right where it belongs.

While the N85 certainly doesn't have the best 5MP camera on the market or the best styling there is, it is certainly one of the best all-rounders we've encountered. There is virtually no aspect of its performance where it totally fails (okay, zooming in the gallery is not that important).

And - having said all that - the best thing about Nokia N85 is it can tempt both Symbian newcomers and upgraders. It's quite a list of phones that can lose their owners' favor to N85.

ok cool, so software installed to play mm formats, cool

did u get your n82 from vc or mtn? Or doesnt it matter? Will i get the same deal

Yeah the n85 is cool but no xenon flash? And I honestly cant see any major difference in spec between the N82 and N85?

I like the E66.

Has all the features (minus the camera) of the N82. Maybe a little less.

But as a phone, that has all the data access needs and then some, it gets my vote.

The only reason I vote for the E66 over the N82, is because of the small keys on the N82.

:)

Yeah, like they say in the conclusion of that review there is not much Nokia can add now. The N series phones have pretty much got all they can have in them already. They can only package it differently.

The xenon flash it really what sells the N82 to me. The photos are exceptional for a cellphone. And as a bonus it has everything else the n-series offer!

I got it from MTN on the Anytime200 at R239 per month.

seems like a done deal then, but i must say, i went to a mtn shop today and they wanted 3 months bank statements, a lock of pubic hair, and a payslip, and then they got to send it off and u have to wait like a week for them to do all the paperwork. WTF.
They could take a leaf from iTalk, everything happens online and 10min on the phone all that credit cra_p is done. I basically walked out. I'm sure I can avoid that redtape by going thru iTalk or MTN direct for the phone.
and the

I was lucky then... went into MTN pavilion in Westville on the Monday, signed the paperwork, an excellent staff member (Indian gentleman whose name I forget) there said I could scan and email all the required documents to him when I get home. I did this, he called on the Wednesday to say everything was accepted and that I could fetch the phone on Thursday! Done and dusted... and it was a number port from Vodacom. The port took place Thursday night and I woke up Friday morning with an active MTN sim using my old number!

lancelot, whats the broswer like on the nokia?

The default browser is okay but I have not tested it extensively though as I prefer using Opera mini to save on data costs. I am led to believe that the default browser does not support flash. I have also loaded the full version of Opera for fun! :)

well, I've researched and researched and researched, and when it comes down to it, i have to say the N82, E66, E71, N96 are all very very similair, almost identical. I quite like the E71 because it reminds me of a BB and I like the KBoard for sending email and SMS, u just cant beat a keyboard.

Then u have the N82 which has the best camera

E66 is just a slidy phone but almost the same except for VOIP, but i'm sure u can get software to do this on the other Nokias

N96 is nothing different except slidy phone and a dual processor

DAMN!!!!

Again if anyone has any of these devices can you pls comment what u like or dislike about them?

N96 is nothing different except slidy phone and a dual processor

Strange one this as I see GSM Arena does not mention it but many other websites refer to the N82 also having dual processors... here is an example from Wiki :

CPU : Texas Instruments OMAP 2420, Dual CPU, ARM architecture (ARM 11, 332 MHz)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N82

But just search for N82 and dual processor and you will see for yourself... and something from a forum by someone who seems to know what they are talking about :

I know N82 uses a TI OMAP 2420 as CPU and a TI OMAP DM290 GOLDENEYE for camera. Within OMAP 2420 there is an application core and a DSP, the first one is based on ARM11 and runs at about 330MHz, and the second one is ARM7 @ 206MHz. So for N82, no matter how heavy the task for the phone, the basic function like dialing won't be affect. But the OMAP 2420 doesn't support 5M Pixel camera, so NOKIA adds an OMAP DM290 which supports up to 7M Pixel's camera, realtime encoding up to VGA @ 30FPS, and multi format decoding. For this reason I think N82 will be strong not only in running applications but also in multimedia usage.
