Earphones for R150?

I strongly suggest you fork out more and get a nice pair of Sennheiser CX 300-II PRECISION BLACKs Here

These are great quality earphones by a reputable German engineering company that spends money on R&D and not so much advertising like Beats and Skullcandy.

You are paying for a quality product and not a brand (although to me Sennheiser, Klipsch and Bose are pretty much the brands to lookout for)

Don't worry about audiophile w@nk3ry, these earphones will make your FLACs sound as good your ears can hear for that price.
 
I'll give a +1 on those CX 300-II, I currently use them at work for music and they are really good sounding earbuds.
 
I bought Klipsch S4i earbuds after MKBHD said they're the best earphones he's ever had bar none. I must say they've been terrific. They only get used with my phone though.
 
Audiophile just means you love great sound quality and are willing to pay a premium to get it. Buying analogue releases molded on high quality PVC and headphones that cost a bajilion dollhairs.

It's sort of like being a sound engineering hipster.

OP go to your local CNA and see if they have any promotions/red table(specials - end of range), picked up quality headphones for R100 begin of the year that retail for over R500-600.

This isn't. There are a number of decent priced headphones that are of far better quality than the likes of Beats Audio (which is what hipsters actually buy).

I'm not a fan of the term audiophile, as it implies a level of appreciation far beyond the grasp of most music lovers. People shouldn't claim to be audiophiles unless they have a seriously hot setup and have hearing like Wolverine.

I just like my music to sound good to me. I spent around R9k on my car audio and I think it's awesome. The Asus U7 DAC on my PC only cost around R1.2k but I think it does the job very well. My Klipsch S4i earphones cost around R700 and are sufficiently good that I would never spend more on earphones. I have a pair of Sony XB-500 headphones for listening to bass-heavy music, and Sennheiser HD380 Pro's for listening to classical music and stuff that's more mellow in general.

An audiophile might scoff at my equipment, but I think I bought my stuff at the point of diminishing returns. Spending R13k on some Sennheiser HD800's and R5k on a better DAC will probably mostly be lost on my ears.

Agreed but for the cost they're worth it. For the OP's needs they would work perfectly.
 
For R300 you could get the Earpods which at that price range are (to me) the best set you can buy. The integration with Apple devices and play/pause/volume/mic controls on the cord are tremendously useful features, they're comfortable and durable, and the sound quality isn't altogether terrible.


Edit I just read the OP and he wants it for his 3DS. Honestly the best thing I can recommend is to go into Game's electronics section and pick up a R150 pair of Sony in-ears. In any case they'll always die after 8-10 months of use and you'll just buy another set. Regrette rien!

If being a sound engineering hipster means I get to experience music in a quality controlled environment then so be it.
If you had to hear the quality of my Beyerdynamic Dt990 Pro headphones you'd probably also consider being a bit more audiophile.

Apple EarPods? You surely jest, those things are rubbish. I'd rather get a set of Galaxy S4 (and upwards) Samsung earphones. Hell, the OP is better off with those Skullcandy IEM's.
