Earthing Cat6 Shielded cable for home network

Hi guys,

Also, where can I find wall plugs that have a network jack in them? (lets say 2 normal 3 point plugs and a network spot in the middle?

Look at Keystone modules:

Not for power but great for everything else, I used them for audio and network combinations. I imported them as nowhere in SA had them or those who did charged a fortune, but it was a few years back so you might find a local supplier now.

CAT 6 just requires the correct end connectors (RJ-45) - no earthing required. You need to make sure you only untwist the correct length of wires to fully comply with the CAT 6 specification - untwist too much and you don't comply, even if it works perfectly. So, untwist just enough to get your wires into the connector, and make sure your shielding reaches all the way to the edge of the connector. Problem solved.

Have you ever heard of shielded CAT 5/6 and the terms FTP and UTP? Do you know that shielding is useless when used with UTP connectors? FTP connectors are metal and earths the shielding through the device it connects to.

That is it... Well done.

I once met a guy who thought it meant unshielded twisted pair and foiled twisted pair. How wrong was he!
